Past and future Tonk mommy

MommyToBayla Jan 14, 2006 09:40 PM

I see one name I remember from the olddddddd AOL Tonk board that I have not been part of for about 5 yrs now. My first Tonk was a Blue Mink named Ricky and there is not a day that I do not miss him. I am the mother of a 5 year old daughter who is now old enough for a kitten, and since she is in Kindergarten and I work I am getting two Tonks so they have company during the day. We pick up our baby boys next week! They will be 3 months at that time. i can not wait to be a Tonk mommy again. Bayla named one Ricky after our first Ricky. By the way, my old AOL account name was mindymerd and that is now my earthlink account.

Mindy: Good to hear from you and the new kitten is outstanding news!

I just got an email from another former poster on the board. It's late and I can't remember the name under which she posted. She had a Tonk named Kiko and a dog named Kobe. I know I posted recently that they lost Kiko. Anyway, the email I got today told me that they're getting a new Tonk baby in 3 weeks.

This is double cause for celebration! Welcome Ricky and I want to see photos ASAP!!

TONK KITTENS ARE SUCH A BLESSING!!!

How do I add a photo? I do have some from the Breeder. I remember the other member you mean, I believe it was Sue? You two were the two I was hoping to see anyhow because you were the ones I most related to.
Ricky I was unable to accompany us back to NY from Atlanta, so he was staying with friends of ours in Atlanta, and someone made the fatal mistake of leaving a door open. Ricky was likely looking for mee and he got hit by a car. He was such an amazing companion that I am still heartbroken about it. We had him until Bayla was a year. She swears she remembers him but I am not sure that it is not just from my stories. We are both excited about the kittens. Ricky II and Levi come home from the breeder next Sunday!!! When I made the decision that it is time for another cat, I knew it would be a Tonk. After knowing Ricky I, there was no other choice for me. The timing is good now also. I am getting a divorce, and Bayla is in OT & PT for fine and gross motor delays that appear to be rooted in Sensory Processing issues. The sensory input from the kittens and the responsibility of carign for them will likely be good for her.

I did figure out how to upload to the gallery, they are there now.

Hello!

You have some adorable babies and I know how excited you are. I just picked up mine from the breeder today! I am sorry to hear about Ricky. Loosing a pet is so hard. I hope your new babies bring you lots of happiness. Keep us updated on their adjustment to home.

Hello Mindy,
Actually Yak and I are the two long-time participants on this board who are here most frequently. My two Tonks are Emily and Eddie. Can't remember what name I used to post under.
I am so sorry to hear about Ricky. I remember when you gave him up.
The kittens are very cute. Hope you and Bayla enjoy them.

Hi Carol, I do remember you!
Funny thing about Ricky, I don't know if you remember the pressure I got when I was pregnant first to give him up, then to de-claw him, and I refused to do either. I had consulted a Vetrinarian in fact, and that not only left me more opposed to de-clawing but also led me to decide I would never take Ricky back there. The vet himself tried to talk me INTO de-clawing all the while pointing out the dangers, but he had declawed his own cats because he felt leather sofas were more important than his cats.
Once Bayla was old enough to crawl, she used to chase after Ricky and grab his fur in her iron fists because she liked the feel. Ricky never once scratched her. He put his paw gently onto her hand like he was covering it with his own. he did that about 3 times and if she didn't leave him alone, he would turn to me and give me a quick nip. He was so tolerant and gentle with her, and everyone was so afraid that because he was a full grown cat who had never been around children that I would have a problem. I am still so heartbroken about him, but when I decided we were ready, as a tribute to the amazing cat he was, my only choice was getting another Tonk.

Yes, it is Sue and she hasn't sent me photos of her new baby-to-be yet.

What a gorgeous little sweetheart! You're so lucky!

NOTHING CUTER THAN A TONK KITTEN!!
