Need advice help for a cruel pet store here in Chicago....

catsandlizards May 28, 2003 09:02 AM

There is a store that I was in once to purchase a Bulb for Lizzy, of course they did not have it so I left.
They are selling baby Ig's that are all in one crammed fish tank and just a regular looking bulb for heat and light source.
That's not the worst though, the owner or employee's have taken in a couple of larger ones, probably returned for what ever reason. Now I saw one and it is like in very bad conditions.
Name of the place is "Bit O Tropics" on W. Fullerton and Central in Chicago.
Anyone know where I can report this store and get something done about this, not only for the Ig's but other animals in there to in the same disgusting conditions.

Hi
I live in Rockford where I also ran into one of these
pet stores.

Go into the store and make mental notes of everything
including: are the cages clean, fresh food and water,
is there an odor?

Write everything down and call the Dept of Agriculture
at 1-217-782-6657 or 1-800-273-4763. Also, contact your
local Humane Society and let them know.

I did this and the Dept of Ag went out and totally agreed
with my findings. They found out this loser was operating
without a license. Needless to say he was out of business
within a few weeks.

Hope this helps

If there is a ladnlord, complain to the landlord. That is how we lost a couple of puppy mill mall stores.

Just confront the owners. Tell them what a$$hoes they are and tell them what they should be doing. A bit confrontational, I admit, but making $hit feel like $hit is only half the battle. GOOD LUCK!

You might want to contact the CHS and see what advice they can give. I will also be emailing you privatly with a number for a man that can help with this.
