How did this happen?

I made a disturbing discovery last week: My little angels have fleas!!

We have not had an issue with fleas since Sadie dog went to the bridge a number of years ago (and even then it was under control because I used Advantage).

Needless to say, Emily and Eddie now have flea control...but I still can't figure out where the nasty little things came from. Neither cat goes outside, no other animals have been inside, and I use bug spray (on me) when I work in the yard.

Any ideas anyone?

Do you have a screened porch? When we first moved down south Bentley picked them up from the porch...once I got him on flea control problem solved...

another possibility...

you could have brought one in or if you have had anyone over who has pets who might have fleas stowing away in a sock or shoe...they'd jump of the humans who don't have the desireable fur and crawl around the rug until they found one of your fuzzballs, I read somewhere they sense the vibration in the floor and migrate toward the animals...pretty sneaky little buggers.

I'm glad you were able to get it all under control...fleas suck!

Carol: I can imagine that you are appalled about the fleas.

I'm wondering, do you live in a mild temperate climate? If you do, it is very likely that the fleas in your are do not "winter kill" and therefore, you must take extra precautions with your cats. I live in Central WA and we have winters cold and hard enough that fleas and other parasites die each winter. Over in the Seattle area, the temperatures are much more moderate and the fleas/parasites do not winter kill.

I'm sure you're doing everything correctly to get rid of those pesky little monsters!

LIONS,TONKS, AND FLEAS....OH MY!!

Nope. No screened porch (although I wish I had one). And, I'm in Northern Virginia, near Washington DC, where it generally gets cold enough in the winter to kill off the fleas and other bugs.

Maybe someone did bring a flea or two in with them, or maybe I picked one up in the yard one of the times I didn't douse myself in bug spray before I went out.

I don't like chemicals but I'm certainly thankful for the modern-day flea control products. And I certainly will be more vigilant in the future!
