Eye Color

I took this great picture of Sina where you can see her eye color really well and I wanted to share it!

Also- what color eyes do your tonks have? I always say that Sina's eyes defy description... "green" doesn't really explain them!

Sina's eyes are really really beautiful...they seem from the photo to be a very very pale green aqua...

I've got a whole bunch of colors going on here...Bentley (point)has sapphire blue, Finster (mink) has aqua(blue aqua), and Alastair, well he's got this weird green/yellowish that graduates to a greenish aquaish color in the middle...I'm fairly certain they are the color of most of the solid coat pattern cats...which means he is a mink with the wrong eye color...and you just may have a solid with the wrong eye color...since minks are supposed to have a shade ranging anywhere from green aqua to blue aqua and solids are supposed to have a shade ranging from greenish gold to yellow gold.

Here are all of my boys eyes...

Though a somewhat unusual color, I think Sina's eyes still fall within the standard for a solid. Points are required to have blue and minks have to have aqua. But they give a bit more leaway with solids... CFA standards lists eye color for solids as anywhere from green to green-gold.

Although, isn't it a bit strange that they are so strict on points and minks, but not as much on solids?

Gosh they have beautiful eyes.. the 2nd photo is a 'mink'.? Is there a more common color? Or one that is harder to get. I think the middle photo is the color I like most. I just went to a catshow and saw a lilac point and it was not what I expected.. it was beatiful with lighter points..

Finster (2nd photo) is a Natural Mink.

The Mink coat pattern/eye color is not necessarily more common but it is what makes Tonkinese special...no other cats have aqua eyes.... The color and coat pattern become more common or rare depending on what the breeder decides to breed...the kittens depend completely on the colors/coat patterns of the parents.

Lilac is also called Platinum (Lilac is the original Siamese color term)...TerryB's Liat is a platinum point and she is georgous...she's got some photo's posted. In a few years we are going to get two more kittens and a platinum is on my list...

What a sweet picture!!
Eddie is a mink, but instead of the aqua eyes he was supposed to have, his eyes are green (you can see them in his picture under the Cat Breeds S-Z heading)-- and I'm glad he does because the breeder may not have let me have him if they were the "correct" color. Emily is my little point, so she has pretty blue eyes.

Sounds like we have a little group of "custom" tonks here...

I'm certain the only reason I got Alastair was because his eye color was incorrect...and even then she still had a hard time giving him up because he is such a mushball...

Just to show the difference between eye colors in solids I thought I'd include a picture of Charlie's Eyes. Her eyes were very green, especially compaired to Sina's very light eyes.

((Sometimes I amaze myself at how often I bring up my little angel kitten Charlie in this forum... for a while I avoided this message board because it made me sad. Guess I've finally learned that even if she is gone, she is still with me!))
