My new Tonks

baka Jan 12, 2008 05:00 PM

Here are the pics of my new Tonks - my first cats ever. I brought them in last night and we are in the bonding phase. They are getting friendsly slowly. The Blue point is less friendly and does not like to be picked up. The natural mink wants to seat on my shoulder all the time and cuddles as if he knew me for ages.

OOOOHHHHH THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

Congratulations on joining the wonderful world of those of us who are owned by Tonks! Have patience, your little blue point baby will come around soon. Sometimes it just takes a little time.

What are their names?

Carol, Emily, & Eddie

I do hope that the blue point boy warms up. It is 2.5 days that we have known each other. The natural mink is exactly what I have been reading about Tonks - follows me from room to room, rolls down at my feet and shows me his belly to stroke. He also has one painful habit to me - he just jumps up to my sholder even from the floor. I am already in scars from his claws .

So far I have two challenges: to make blue point my friend (hope it will happen eventually) and teach them to scrach on the scratching post. So far I have not been successful. They do not seem to pay any attention to the scratching post neither to my attempts to show how to scratch their.

How long it takes for kittens to get fully comfortable with a new owner and how difficult is usually to train (one day, two, a week?).

The blue point is called Frosty and the natural mink Shako.

Give them time. They're just babies and it takes time to learn new things!
Also, I'll bet your little blue point guy is warming up already--they're all different, just like people, and some are more reserved than others.

As for jumping on your shoulder, that's part of the joy of sharing your world with a Tonk or two. Both mine are shoulder sitters and Eddie is my little leaper. If he decides he wants up he jumps, whether I know he's coming or not! Hint: Ask your vet to show you how to clip their claws, then do it regularly--one a week or so. If you start now, when they are little, they'll just accept it as part of life. And it will make all those landings much less painful.

Good luck, post more pictures, and keep us posted on how you and the babies are doing!!

Oh my God...I want to eat their little furry faces!!!

Good thing I am in the middle of a new cat acclimation right now because it is the only thing stopping me from running out and getting another kitten....

I forgot how freakin' cute they are...

Congratulations...
