Training Tonks

baka Feb 13, 2008 05:26 PM

The breed descriptions always say that Tonks can be trained to fetch things and do some other tricks. My Tonks, very lovely boys, are 5-6 months old now. They do not seem very eager to be trained have very short attention span. I did teach them their names but not fetching toys or coming to me when I call them.

is it easier to train kittens or adult cats?

Also often the fans of Tonks say they are affectionate and want to seat on your laps all the time. One of my kittens is not very docile - he does not like to be picked up and after a minute wants to escape. He also very rearely comes and seats on my laps.

Jus want to hear your experiences about how character changes in the kittens as they grow old. Do they become more docile and sweater?

Patience grasshopper...

Kittens are maniacs...it's part and parcel of the age...Bentley was a complete lunatic until about a year old...then he really started to mellow...

All three of mine still run around and have wreslemania bouts at least once a day...but they also recognize a good lap when they see one...(Bentley is going to be 5 and the others are 3)...and the A.D.D. has subsided...

The "fetch" thing was innate with them...I threw something and they brought it back...Fin still thinks its a good idea to bring a toy and drop it on my head in the middle of the night...if I throw it off of me...well, game on...so, be careful what you wish for...

I think a better word for Tonks rather than "train" is "learn"...they learn things and then keep doing them...usually though they "decide" what they want to learn...like Bentley's new trick...he opens the lower cabinets in my home...I walk into a room and a random cabinet is open...luckily for me I watched him open one, one day...otherwise I would swear my house was haunted!
