Treasure Trove?

Cailin Aug 03, 2008 09:37 AM

I noticed something interesting in the last post... several people noted that their kitties liked to keep toys near or around their food bowl. My little Charlie used to do that- all her favorite toys somehow ended up finding safe keeping in her food bowl. Hair elastics were a particular favorite of hers (Sina likes to destroy hair ties, so I hide them because I am afraid of her ingesting them!)... Anyone else notice this strange behavior?

Sina on the other hand, doesn't really seem to hold anything sacred- as stated already, she destroys hair ties. I also bought her a box of 100 little play mice after she had so much fun maiming the original three pack I got her. Sometimes she just runs around the house with them and I find them in interesting places (she has dropped many in the toilet) but eventually they all end up completely destroyed. She also likes biting cardboard!

I can just picture Sina and her box of mice! Actually, I should probably start buying them in bulk, too. Eddie manages to gnaw them up pretty quickly. And besides leaving them in or near his food dish, he also likes to bring them onto the bed. I never know what I'm going to find when I wake up in the morning!

He also likes to chew on paper, so I have to be very careful about what I leave out where he can get to it.

Their signature favorites:

Fin chews socks

Alastair steals anything in a ziploc bag

Bentley eats string/thread

Bentley is the only one who mangles the "babies" then deposits them in the food bowl...Fin is still leaving his kill all over my room...we are now in week 2 of the massacre...Alastair is much too gentle to kill anything...I swear if he were an outside cat he'd try and make friends and groom every other creature he encountered.

I tried to keep the box of mice up on a high shelf so she couldn't destroy all the mice at once (and so my apartment wouldn't be invaded by toy mice)... but of course she got to it. It was sort of funny, cause I didn't fully open it, so she had to try to work them out of the partially opened cardboard flap...

She was also obsessed with this little toy fish I got her for 99 cents at the grocery store... since I didn't want it to be destroyed like all her mice I only let her play with it while supervised. Boy would she get mad when it had to get put away! And she would make noise to 'ask' for it whenever I went near its hiding place! For some reason though she lost interest in it once we moved...

Maybe she thought it didn't fit in with the new decor.

I just picked up a couple new toys yesterday when I was at Petco -- two slightly larger than life size terry mice. Eddie is upstairs right now making that "I've got prey" noise he makes, so I am assuming that he has one of them with him.

What little furballs!
