Do cats get calcium deposits? I noticed awhile back a small lump, above the hind leg in back. it's small, like half a marble. feels hard. i forgot about it, and thought it might be part of his backbone, but my sister noticed it. and it's only on one side. we're going saturday to check it out. anyone have any experience with this?

well, my vet saw it right away and said let's keep an eye on it. any growth and she's take it out. but let's wait.
it's about pea size she said, so i'll keep that in mind. she mentioned it could just be fatty tissue.

i'm just curious if it was always there and if so, did she just miss it? i found a pictures 3 years old and it seems as though he had it then, but i am just not positive.

she didn't do a biopsy... but we go back for shots in a few months.

so, i'm not sure how i feel... but he has no other symptoms. she checked his teeth and heart and he eats like a horse and plays like a puppy dog.... and i would think it would have other symptoms if it were more. i just love my little guy so ridiculously much, i couldn't bare if something jepodized that.

I always find it best not to worry until someone tells you it's time to worry...

In the meantime, we will send some good thoughts your way...and especially from Rigby's body double Alastair!!!

I agree. Try not to worry and just keep an eye on things.

I found a lump on Emily's side about eight months ago. My vet told me that it was fatty tissue, something that isn't all that unusual in cats as they get older.

Do keep us posted.

rigby is almost 4yr. how old is emily? did your vet take a sample to test it to be sure its fatty tissue? my boy is sleeping on my lap licking every spot on my hands right now...

Emily is 12. I'm not sure how long the lump has been there, but I just discovered it last spring.

I'm not sure what the vet did. I was there with her on an emergency visit because she'd been vomiting almost nonstop and going in and out of the litter box without doing anything. Needless to say, I was scared to death. I discovered the lump while I was putting her in the carrier (which needless to say made me even more upset), so I told them about it while I was at the vet. All I remember is that I was assured it was just fatty tissue. Think they may have taken a sample but wouldn't swear to it.

BTW, they never did figure out what was wrong with her. She was hydrated and given a shot to settle her stomach and, after a few more incidents after we got home, she went to sleep and was fine when she woke up.

well, we are going to get a second opinion this saturday. my vet is a bit old school, so this is a newer place. recommended. and they will aspirate and take a sample to analyzed. i will feel better knowing what it is and not taking a chance...

so i'm going with my gut on this one...

wish us luck!

In my experience, it's always best to listen to that inner voice.
Please let us know what you find out.
