Kitty quirks?

cailin Jan 21, 2009 11:00 PM

So I've noticed that everyone seems to have a tonk with their own unique quirks... I thought it would be fun to ask everyone to share!

Sina has more quirks than any cat I personally have ever met. She loves to "talk"- but won't talk to anyone but me. Furthermore, when we are in my family's home (not my apartment) she won't talk unless she is in my room upstairs! I think this must be because of the dogs- she isn't afraid of them, but she knows they would bug her if she made a lot of noise around them. But because she is naturally such a talkative creature she always spends the first 10-15 minutes in my room at bedtime meowing as loudly as possible!

I'll add more later... but please share what unique things your tonks do!

Bentley...eats string, opens cabinet doors, will not poop in a dirty litterbox, resident scarf & barfer, loves to hide in fresh warm laundry, must wedge himself in between me and my son, husband, or other animal at all times. He actually marked me when he was a kitten...(it was as funny as it was disgusting...)Favorite sleeping spot on the heating vent in the family room.

Alastair...he's a piece of work...tells (yells at) me when the food bowl is empty, obsessed with appliances, hops into all empty baskets, steals anything in a ziploc bag, resident animal/human groomer...will lick anything...I bought a faux fur blanket from Pottery Barn...he had a field day...took him a week to finally figure out it was not an actual animal and stop licking it. Favorite sleeping spot the back of the chair and a half in the family room.

Finster...trouble maker...instigates Bentley, and will not back down from a fight...took on the greyhound and won...but is also the most kid friendly of the three, eats socks, resident serial killer...bringing me dead toys all day long, must go in the bathroom with my husband...(which is more disgusting than it is funny....)Favorite sleeping spot: on the back of the sofa in the family room.

Rigby, just now, started yelling when my boyfriend sneezed. and did each time thereafter (he sneezed three more times).... apparently that upsets him?

He also "nurses/kneads" (puts his mouth slightly open on my skin and closes his eyes tight and kneads) on me...on my tummy or under my arm.... it started when he was a kitten and he was supposed to out grow it... we're still waiting 3 years later...
Yes, it is strange, and freaks people out, but now he started doing it to my boyfriend... are we BOTH his mommy? lol.

And he hides in Dirty laundry to nap, and every night, he pulls the covers down, climbs in and sleeps down by our knees... we need a bigger bed!

My izzy must have stash a fake furry mice somewhere, as i give her a new one every day and every night they are completely gone. she also cannot meow...she squeaks, and she opens cabinets, standing on her hind legs.... tricky girl!

Oh, Sina kills her toys too! I bought her a box of 100 mice last year and I dole them out every now and then. She found the box once. I had only pushed the cardboard partially open (they came in a cheese wedge shaped display box and had circles that could be punched out to open) when I took one out. Well, clever little girl managed to open it and help herself to several mice. Usually they last a few days before she destroys them. Sometimes she "drowns" them in the toilet! Any "good toys" that I get for her I only let her play with while supervised, then put them away so she won't kill them.

She also doesn't mind water. She fell into the tub once while I was taking a bath. I scooped her up and toweled her off and she purred happily the whole time. She somehow got fleas once and ended up having to take baths fairly frequently (because I absolutely refused to use chemicals on her and went with the old fashion dish soap method) and I learned that as long as the tub was already filled and not running she actually kind of likes it!

Emily waits patiently every morning until I've had my breakfast. Then she hops up on my shoulder as I finish my coffee and "helps" me read the paper.

As for Eddie, he's still upstairs sleeping. In the bed. Under the covers. With his head on the pillow.
