How much does a checkup and/or fecal exam cost??

Raydeohed Oct 14, 2003 11:53 AM

Hey guys, my leop geck has been having some runny/watery stools lately, and i've only had her for a little over two weeks. I didn't take her to the vet when i bought her, which i probably should have done. she's my first leopard gecko, and i hope she's ok. I just wanna make sure. About how much would a fecal exam cost? and/or a checkup? and how can i find good vets? where should i look for them??

Thanks

Look for a vet at these web sites:

www.herpvetconnection.com
www.arav.org

A vet visit usually costs $30-$50 just for the office time. A fecal usually runs arouns $15 and any meds after that run $10-$20. When you find a vet, ask if you can just bring in a fecal sample to have checked. Some vets will do that, and then if anything is wrong you'll take your gecko in. If nothing is wrong, then you don't have to pay for the office visit. Some vets won't do it that way though. Good Luck!

Since they actually do two tests when they run a fecal, it can cost anywhere from $20-$40. You want a vet who is experienced and has well-tranined vet techs who will be able to identify the harder-to-spot parasites.

But yes, definitely get it checked right away! You don't want your leo to get dehydrated from the diarrhea. Bring the freshest sample you can into the vet, and seal it up in an air-tight container so it doesn't dry up.
