Safe disinfectants/cleaners?

eppon Oct 14, 2003 12:09 PM

What cleaners are safe to use on glass cages? Also, after using the cleaner or disinfectant, how soon can I put the dragon back in?

Thanks in advance.

novalson is a good cleaner/disinfectant for wiping down the glass etc. sudsy ammonia is great for cleaning for coccidia (make sure you rinse very well and the smell is gone before placing dragons back in enclosures, not to be used while dragons are in enclosures for wiping down walls etc). i also use white vinegar and water on a daily basis to wipe down any mess on floors or walls of cages, its safe, makes things smell good and clean and a good disinfectant.

sudsy ammonia at the grocery store, novalson at your local pharmacy or if you go to feed stores for horses and livestock they will have big bottles of it there for a good price usually.
i would use the ammonia and soak it in a 1 part ammonia 3 part water solution overnight, give it a good scrub and rinse it very well make sure to get any smell out before putting a dragon in it, rinsing it several times usually will do the trick, but i also after rinsing use some dish soap on it and scrub it once more and rinse again to be sure i removed all the ammonia.

I've mentioned this before. The smell of vinegar doesn't harm the animals. The vinegar works really well on the cleaning and windows.

I read about it from Dear Heloise. ET did a study and said it killed 99.9% of bacteria and germs. And that it works better then bleach. Considering that, I would say that it does.
