This week's burning question is:
Were you named after anyone?

When I was born my parents couldn't decide on a name, why I don't know. My mother jokingly told the doctor to name me Dagmar, but he said no. For some reason the character Francie in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" captured her imagination and so she decided to name me Frances and call me Francie.

My middle name is Thora. That was my great-grandma's first name. It's Danish. Of all her 9 children only my grandma named a daughter after her. My mom's name is Sunny Thora. I got the name too....Kathryn Thora. And then I passed it on to my oldest....Katelyn Thora. I hope she passes it on as well.

Kathryn

I am named after my mom, but it got confusing when I got into high school and college. She is Barbara R, I am Barbara J. So when the Filene's bills came, we had to look close to see whose was whose!

My father was a teacher and swore he never had a dumb Elizabeth, so my name was chosen years before I arrived. But when I was born my great grandmother asked if I was named after her sister Elizabeth. Dad said no, he didn't even know she had a sister with that name. "Good! She was a real b****!" I think it was the only time my father heard his grandmother use that word!

My daughter is named after my great aunt Eleanor, nicknamed Eno. My parents have a cat named Eno. When I first sugested Eleanor as our daughter's name, Big Scary Man thought I was saying we should name her after the cat!

My Mom wanted Jennifer or Rebecca after her Aunts.

My Dad wanted Tamra or Angie (so he could call me Angel).

They settled on Tamra Rebecca. Tamra has no connections to anyone, Rebecca after one of my Great Aunts, Becky.

My brother is Blane David. Blane after a millionaire my Dad once met, David after my Dad (David). The men in the family tend to have the middle name of their father.

The one thing the did is give my brother and I uncommon spellings for our fairly uncommon as it is names... We've both been plagued for years with people that misspell our names. They always want Tamara for me and Blaine for my brother.
