Holiday stressed?

kittyromeo Dec 19, 2006 09:01 AM

Do you feel like you have it together this holiday season?

Seems like everyone I've talked to in the last week is giving up something this holiday season; baking cookies, sending cards or the like because they don't have the time, energy or money. Does anyone actually get it all together during Christmas?

No stress here. No big family or social group so gifts aren't a big deal. We cut down the card list to people from out of state several years ago; just got too expensive to send cards to people we see all the time. I'd never say I have anything all together but rather that this time's no more stressful.

Cutting down the Christmas card list, ordering a lot on-line, and starting with a bulk of my shopping in mid-November really helps. I have three nieces in Texas, all with December birthdays (two the first week in December!). So, I get a good bit done early due to that.

What really stresses me is trying to get everything done at work so I can take the week off between Christmas and New Year about kills me each year, but it is worth it!

I try not to get too holiday stressed, but it's been a madhouse here this year! I don't even have my tree up yet, although I sort of take pride in following my German heritage in putting it up close to Christmas and taking it down after Epiphany (January 6). Putting the tree up on Christmas Eve sort of speaks to me in a way. I love digging through all the ornaments and remembering the history of each one, and sorting through the Christmas decorations and setting them up on the eve of Christ's birth as well.

I'm weird....

STRESSED?? With mongol hordes (both sides of the family) coming for Christmas, hubby, who is retired, and supposed to be doing stuff around the house to get ready, playing computer games,,,,,
what gets done, will be done. The tree is up and decorated, almost all presents are wrapped, gotta throw him in the garage to do his, think of serving PP & J on Monday!

Wrapping the last of my gifts tonight, I called my mother to whine about how out of whack this Christmas is. Heartless woman laughed at me! "You're the Mommy now!"

I have no idea how many people will be around the table Monday (we're taking in any and all adult orphans), I can't find my corn pudding recipe and Big Scary Man decided to move up the removal date for the kitchen floor - to tomorrow!

This is going to be interesting.....anyone know where my big pan got packed off to when I married and moved?

I think my neighbors have it. They borrowed my large stock pot about two months ago to make chili for a lot of guests after church and haven't returned it yet. I haven't really thought about it much to ask, but wouldn't you think something as large as a huge stock pot you would recall wasn't yours -- mostly because, where would you put it? You wouldn't have a hole that big in any of your cabinets to store it unless it was yours... I can see borrowing a small utensil or something and forgetting it... This was a several quart stock pot. Bigger than any pot/pan they already have... Should stick out like a sore thumb and you'd want to return it to get your counter space back... LOL.
