redfoot not eating.need help

wewantpeace2003 Oct 14, 2003 12:35 PM

a dwarf redfoot that i had for 4 month had eaten only a little bit of food for the past 1 month.but now he only want to eat food with strong smell (beans, carrots, bananas).he's quite light in weight right now but not very thin.still very active.

1 thing that i notice is that he likes to drink ALOT this days.when i give him greens stuff,he rubs his nose on the leaf, seeking water on the leaf.his foot is rather dry/cracky since i bought him.now i put a water bowl in his cage, and he spend about 40% of the time there(mostly just putting his head under water, sometime he drink some of it)

is there something wrong with my tortoise or is it just dehrydrated?

There is definately something wrong with your tortoise. If you can get a fecal out of it, have a vet check it out. I'll be willing to bet it has a good parasite load. Redfoots are normally pigs.
Ask the vet if a round of Flagyl is warranted.

EJ is right, my little redfoot would eat until he pops!
I would check the humidity. Try to keep it at least 50-60%
with some areas having about 70% humidity. It could be he
is also dehydrated if it is hot and dry and he is not eating.
Daily warm soaks are good too.

Please get your little guy to a vet

That's true. My redfoot's appetite was picky and when I first got her. I took her into the vet and had fecals done and she was LOADED with Giardia. (YIKES those little buggers are ugly!!)

Anyhow a round of Flagyl and she was fine!
