This week's burning question is:

What color are your socks right now?

cyclopsgrl Jan 13, 2007 02:28 PM

White. Love my white ankle socks. I wear pantyhose to work during the week (skirts, dresses). All other times, you'll find me in white ankle socks.

Boring feet, unite!!!

Black with red stripes. They have "Dear Santa, I can explain" written on them.

BTW, it's mighty cold here in Iowa. We had our first snow of the year Saturday night making road conditions dangerous. At least it's not like in southern Missouri where they are suffering power outages and below freezing temperatures.

At the moment, Simba is keeping himself occupied by humping on Samantha's little cat bed. She doesn't appreciate it but that doesn't stop him. What a silly kitty!

Brrr! Watching the news this week I've wondered why it is with all the tools in the house and garage that we don't have a generator for emergencies! Hope this lousy weather keeps missing us!

Stay warm Ruby!

Stay warm!!! We've had a cold snap out east here, not as bad, but mighty nippy. Had a snow "squall" last night on the way home. Sudden heavy storm with lots of blowing snow making driving almost white-out conditions. Thankfully, nothing stuck to the ground, but the trip home was white-knuckle.

Mom in central Texas is in the middle of an ice storm!! How are you faring out there, Madame Alto??? If I recall, you aren't too far from my Mom on the map (she's in Copperas Cove/Killeen area).

A generator indeed! Woke up 3:00 AM yesterday morning to a pitch black house. NO POWER! Below zero temperature! I had to feel my way to the dresser for a candle and some matches. Then made my way into the kitchen to look at the only clock with a battery.....3:00 AM! I couldn't tell if it was cold in the house or not so checked the thermostat in the dark. No power to that either and it was blank. David woke up and came downstairs and we lit some more candles. Then, of course, the cats wanted fed. I opened them a can of cat food and divided it in 4 dishes. They gobbled it down. Then Simba puked! I had to hold the candle close to the floor and go back into the kitchen for some paper towels to clean it up before somebody stepped in it.

Luckily I had put in for Tuesday as my 'President Ford's day of mourning' so wasn't scheduled for work yesterday morning. (It was also my 65th birthday). Then my alarm went off at 4:11 AM which is the time I get up and start getting ready for work. I wonder how I could get ready in the dark and no power. How do you even open the automatic garage door? So David and I sit under the blankets shivering and wondering what to do. David went back up to his room and fell back to sleep. I went back to bed and just about drifted off and the power came back on. Five AM! I looked at the thermostat and it was 66º. Since I had it set on 75º, it had only dropped 9º so that wasn't bad.

I have no idea what happened to knock out the neighborhood power since all of the lines are underground. Must have been the transformer off of the exit on I80. It sometimes gets hit by a car and knocks the power out in my neighborhood.

My goodness, it was only two hours for us! I really feel sorry for all of those in southern Missouri who've been without power for days.

Well Happy Birthday Ruby! Couldn't Simba thought of a nicer gift then a puddle of puke? After all the pampering you do for him! Did he at least keep your lap warm?

Your garage door will have a pull cord that disconnects it from the motor so you can manually open it. With some of the wild weather you get in your area, it's a good thing to know in case you have to get out of dodge in a hurry!

I wish more people were careful drivers during nasty weather. You lost power, my B-I-L almost killed a few people. He is a trucker. Someone ahead of him slammed on their brakes on an icy bridge creating a pinball effect as cars plowed into the guy. By dumb luck or devine intervention, all the cars slid into the guardrails on either side and Kevin went right up the middle missing everyone. At least two cars were totaled.

Big Scary Man has family in so. IL - city workers were trying to fix a frozen, burst pipe and sent raw sewage back into their home. They had just had their house pipes cleared 2-3 weeks before but last I heard the city is claiming they failed to maintain their pipes so the city won't pick up the cleaning tab.

And I wonder why bad weather makes me nervous!
