Puberty question

sweetgurrl22 Oct 14, 2003 12:41 PM

I have a question about the behaviors of a male veiled going through puberty. Right now I have about a 5 month old male veiled, and lately he has been doing some strange things. For example he climbs everywhere in his cage and is not eating as much. I was just wondering what are some normal behaviors of male veiled going through puberty and is my cham experiencing them or do I need to take him to the vet???

Has anything in his environment changed? He may just be somewhat upset with it...

at 5 mo..he should be starting to "patrol" a bit more. As a baby mine enjoyed just resting around..now he walks every branch every day and patrols his domain.

hope that helps

We put a hibiscus plant in the cage about a month ago. He just seems like something is going on. Also, his colors are brown and green which makes me think he is stressed but I do not know from what. His temps are good and the humidity is good as well.

hrm...

try taking out the hibiscus?

Maybe offer more foliage..but with a path of walkways above the foliage..and some though it?

If you are truely concerned - you can take him to a vet, but I am not sure they will be of much help. They would do a fecal and confirm parasites. They would ask you what the set up is. they would question how you give water to your cham. they would look at his eyes..and mouth. It would not hurt to take him in...

Some days my cham is dark..some days light.

He may also be getting ready to shed...my female goes dark about 3 days before hand...I can not imagine that shedding is a comfortable experience...however she does eat.
