C'mon Spring, hurry up.........

gocatgo Mar 03, 2007 01:03 PM

Well, Thursday and Friday of this week, we got another round of the same conditions as the week before. First it started out as rain, then turned to ice and snow, then blizzards and white-out road conditions. The governor has declared the whole state of Iowa a disaster area. Much of the interstate has been closed down, especially from West Des Moines to Omaha. I took emergency annual leave from work as I'm not about to drive in this stuff. All of the schools have been closed down too which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. They've been watching a lot of television for the past couple of days. ha!

Today it's finally slowing down however the temps are in the teens again. It's a waste of time to shovel or snow blow since the snow is still coming down. Tomorrow is supposed to start clearing up and the temperature will be in the 30s. Then come Monday, we are supposed to get warmer temperatures in the 40s and maybe even low 50s later on in the week.

We had a very warm November, December and January....then, all hell broke loose when February arrived. We lived through it but it didn't have to carry over to March too.

I do not like winter. I love spring! I want to see tulips, crocuses and daffodils. Go away snow and ice.

Hurry up, Spring! I can't wait.

I hope that you all are enjoying better weather than we're having here in Iowa.

Well, all the crappy weather you had one day, we got hit with the next here in New England! This afternoon was wonderful, taste of spring, with temps mid 50's. Took Smig for "walkies" and she was thrilled to be out. Almost was itching to work in the garden, but the ground is still frozen and half covered in white crap. Hope my roses made it though. Now it is back in the deep freeze, thank goodness for the wood stove!

I am hearing all about it from family in Iowa. In addition to parents, I have Aunts, Uncles, cousins, etc., there... I feel bad for you guys. My Uncle has a long driveway and generally parks up near the house (which is more tree lined). He thought to park at the end of the driveway during the last storm and lucked out. A huge branch fell across the top of his driveway from the heavy ice that would have hit his car and caused a lot of damage...

We had our first round of severe thunderstorms and tornado watches here - welcome to spring in TN. I almost hate to type this but the daffodils that I moved from Mom's house last summer after she passed away are blooming and look so pretty right now. We were in the 60's last week - 25 this morning and an high today of only 45. Supposed to be low 20's tonight and back up in the 60's by Wednesday.

I love daffodils. We'll have them before you know it... I hope the cold snap you have coming up doesn't hurt them...

What? Another cold snap? No, no, no, it can't be! I was happy in my numb brain bliss, thinking that we are through with winter for another season. We are in the 30s now which is warm compared to what we were having. And this weekend, it's supposed to get to the upper 50s. I'm looking forward to daffodils, crocuses and tulips and oh yeah, I have a couple of lilac bushes too. So as you can see, Tammy, we have no room for another cold snap!

Ruby -- Pam mentioned 20-25 lows and I was worried it might hurt her flowers...

Well, it got down to 23 the other night and the ppor daffodils were lying on the ground. However, as it warmed up yesterday, they were all perky again and it appears the flowers were not affected by the cold. They seem to be quite hardy. They are all different types and colors and I am glad that we were able to get them moved. It is quite appropriate that they are blooming now since yesteday marked the first year since Mom died.

Thanks Tessie. It's starting to warm up a bit now and hopefully will be in the 50s later on this week. At least it's not snowing anymore.
