My New Toy

teganslaw Mar 25, 2007 07:01 PM

We bought a new laptop computer Thursday. It's mostly for me to use because my husband is always playing his World of Warcraft game on the other computer. This way I can be online the same time he is. The laptop will also come in handy when we go on vacation. We bought it from Best Buy. The tax refund and all the overtime I've been working has helped out.
I also bought a mouse for laptop because it was too awkward for me to use it by just touching the pad.
I don't think the cats are fond of the computer, though. They keep trying to lay on my lap when I'm using it. They don't like the idea of a computer on my lap instead of themselves. In fact, Star has literally tried to push the computer out of the way just to lay on my lap. I have to be careful when I'm using it.
Otherwise, I'm enjoying the new computer.

Congratulations!! Funny how the cats react... I never would have thought about it, but it certainly makes sense! I can't remember from your post -- do you have the new wireless router technology?

Yes, I do. We also have Verizon FIOS installed on the desktop computer. I love all this new technology!

{{{ENVY!}}} I want a new toy too!!!

I smoked my computer tower in Feb. - shut it up running in a cabinet where the crawling Punky couldn't get it, overheating it. Big Scary Man's 'puter is the internet 'puter but we had totally different operating and software packages. Beyond internet, this box is useless to me.

We're talking about getting a new one, but he is making an emotional, "ah, cool!" choice and I refuse to buy until he agrees to buy what will be practical for what we use it for. I keep having my IT friends try to reason with him, I suspect it will take a few more months.

Two happy 'puter users in one house? Amazing....sorry for the cats discomfort. Enjoy the new toy - post often!

Boy can I ever relate, I have a laptop and 15 cats. Let me tell you someone is always either walking across or laying on the keyboard. They also like to lay in front of the fan which causes it to get hot. Usually someone will come and lay on my chest, I tell you they make a better door than a window. The only big problem is getting the cat hair out of the keyboard. I feel your pain. But in the long run laptops are much nicer than a desktop (for me anyway) because it doesn't take up much room and I can stretch out on the couch with my feet up while I am surfing.

I really love my laptop, although I use my desktop for more "formal" uses like doing music files. The bad thing is that the fan is at the bottom so you are not supposed to put it on your lap. I have to shift it around to an awkward position to be sure air is circulating freely. And yes, Captain Video has shared my lap with the computer quite a number of times.

Enjoy your new toy!

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!

Tomorrow is my birthday (40? When did that sneak up on me??) and mama is getting a new toy!!

Yesterday we were at a christening party. I found Big Scary Man and one of my IT friends holed up in a corner doing the build your own thing on Dell, talking pros and cons. It's a box, but it will met BOTH our needs.

Yippee!
