This week's burning question is:
What kind of computer/operating system are you using?

Welcome to kingsnake.com's message board system. Here you may share and discuss information with others about your favorite reptile and amphibian related topics such as care and feeding, caging requirements, permits and licenses, and more. Launched in 1997, the kingsnake.com message board system is one of the oldest and largest systems on the internet.
This week's burning question is:
What kind of computer/operating system are you using?
-----

I have two computers - one is a Hewlet Packard Laptop and the other is a Compaq - the laptop is way newer, and they both have Windows XP.

LOL, I have 9 year old Compaq Presario. The first generation Pentium, from 1998. My former boyfriend is heavy into Computers (back then he was just starting out into a career) and would upgrade every year or so and give me his "old" computer (about a year old). We broke up in 1999, not long after I got this computer and I never upgraded... I use this primarily for family e-mail and minimal internet, so I can't justify getting a new one... I do stay more state-of-the-art at work.
I want to thank you, MA, for posting these every week. I do look forward to the question of the week... Your last one on shoes is doing something many others can't accomplish -- get me to shop. LOL. I hate shopping. Probably because I work such long hours during the week, the last think I want is to fight crowds on the weekend when I also have to accompish errands for the week such as groceries... But, you've prompted me to get out to the Outlets today and look at Bass Shoes. I am determined to get a new pair of sandals since I tend to buy one pair and wear them to death... My current pair isn't too bad, but they are starting to show some wear after a lot of use last Summer. So, I am going to hit the outlets with a few thousand tourist busses this morning... It is a huge outlet "mall" that they tend to drop of busloads of people at every weekend... They aren't here for just that, but since they are here...

No Tammy, I'm laughing AT you and not with you....send up a flare, we'll send in search and rescue if needed
Really hope you find the sandals of your dreams for your effort!

I went early. I was in and out in an hour-ish. I bet the crowds. LOL. I go every two years, whether I need to or not, and the guilt of the shoe discussion sent me out. Got a cute pair of sandals and clogs for a total of $30. Both were on sale for $20 and they had a buy one, get one half off deal... I should be good for another two years, LOL.
I did have an issue going on at work, so during that hour I fielded 6 cell phone calls. Otherwise, I'd have been done in 30 minutes... As I left, the serious shoppers rolled out. Hundreds of them with backpacks, water, and Outlet Mall Maps in their hands, looking bewildered and confused by the brilliance of it all... Over a hundred stores in one location... Now you see why I only go once every two years and hit one or two specific stores...

My last job was in the home office of a major retailer - when they went outlet too...holy toledo! The sales numbers were through the roof - figuring the company average of x number of dollars per sale divided by a daily gross average of "ohmigawd!" equals the population of Rhode Island walking through the doors every day. As soon as you mentioned how you're not a big shopper, I started chuckling.
Glad to hear you not only made it out alive, but you found what you wanted!
I have a lovely new Gateway with Windows XP and AOL. It was a Xmas present and I love it

I use an Apple iBook G4 (MLTI issue). It uses Mac OS X.
I love it. If I am not at this school next year, I may go out and buy one.

Mine is a Gateway with WIN XP, 160 GIG. I bought it a little over a year ago. The grandkids are on it more than I am anymore. I usually buy a new one every couple of years and pass my 'old' one down to Pam, David or Paula.

Meow!! Meow!! Meow!! Meow!!
I'm on Big Scary Man's 'puter which is on Windows ME (ugh!) My 'puter was a custom built pentium III with XP professional and several whistles and bells. I'm kickin' myself for smoking it.
There is a spec sheet for new computer on the desk, but BSM isn't ready to commit the cash. I sent him to talk to the friend who built a couple of systems for me. He buys computers for a major bank, but BSM isn't sure Mike knows what he is talking about so we are in a holding pattern. The new computer was my birthday gift - April 3rd. At this rate, I'll be happy to see it by Christmas. (sigh)
Well, I really don't know. The tower says e-machine on it so assume it's an old microsoft. I know we use windows. It's a hand-me-down from a relative. (Who's supposed to get a new computer and give us another old one but that hasn't happened yet LOL)
I just don't pay attention to things like that since I don't do anything on the computer except e-mail and a few websites.
Since it's just for fun, don't need anything special.
Still, those of you who know so much about computers make me feel like "duh?" (Okay, so lots of things make me do that.)
I also enjoy the questions, even though I don't always answer.
Had to skip the shoe one because couldn't come up with a
favorite pair. Usually wear some sort of clog-type; comfort over fashion. Actually have shoes that are older than most of you. (Can you say Famolare sandals from the late 60s or early 70s? LOL I don't wear them but did come across about four pair of those in a box recently.)
Packrats-R-Us.
Our desktop is an e-machine (Gateway product) and my laptop is an Acer. Both have Windows Vista on them. Our previous computer had Windows XP, and I haven't ntoiced much difference between the two Windows. I mostly use the computer for e-mail and message boards, not business. My husband uses the desktop to play World of Warcraft.

Another EMachine here, with XP...suits my needs fine

We have 3 computers and one laptop - all Dell computers, except for the laptop which is a Gateway. However operating systems are different. The oldest still is on Win 95. I use that computer to design my knitting projects and download the patterns into the knitting machine. The two main computers (we have his and her computers like our cars) have Win XP.
