Help Gecko has new problem

jcgecko May 28, 2003 09:18 AM

Hi all i have been posting on my super hypo tang ct male how he had parasites well i took him to the doctor yesterday and the doctor did a follow up fecal and he had no more parasites but he still was concerned about the look of the fecal. It was still green and smelly. WE both agreed this looked like a bacterial infectiion and so he gave me some metrodrezanol or something like that to treat him. Im suppose to give it to him 2 times a day for 10 days. Well this morning i got up and his fecal looked like 8 mealworms sucked flat and rolled together he obviously isn't digesting them. What should i do. Plz post back thanks.

I would have to say that it was not poo you saw but regurgitaded
mealworms. Sometime the eat more then they should and they cant hold it down so they puke it back up

no it had the little white form next to it that is always attached to the feces. Thanks though anymore opinions plz post.

I'm sure it shouldn't look like that but on a side note and something to keep in mind. I'm also pretty sure the chitin (not sure how you spell it.) Anyways the mealworm shells are more or less indigestible. The mealworm shed their skin and if my Geckos eat worms that are about to shed their skin I will sometimes notice this in their stools.

no this is definitly different it is completely mealworm i mean it looks like you took 5 mealworms and twisted them together after you hit them flat witha hammer.

I'm no vet. Just I know they can't digest the carapace from the Mealworm completely, and if he/she been having digestive problems then that may account for why his/her stool looks like. i.e A small pellet of mealworm carapaces. Its the only thing I can think of.

He didn't puke it up as you described above so it must have passed through his system and came out undigested.

I'd give it a day or so and keep an eye on him/her if your still in doubt take the geck to the vets again.

Except it's always called by another name...flaggyl. =/
We use it at the store where I work to treat our puppies. Part of the problems we've noticed with the medication is that it tends to make the puppies want to eat less or in some cases, cause vommiting.
Pehaps it's the same case with your leo?
Give a call to your vet and ask about that. Just to be sure.
