You're Fired!

kittyromeo May 27, 2007 04:20 PM

Two weeks ago, we had a yard sale trying to clear the basement of the boxes of stuff Big Scary Man and I each brought into the marriage (4 sets of dishes, 3 sets of pots, 5 sets of silverware...) Among the items we dragged out was a dishwasher still in it's box. BSM pulled it out and discovered the insulation under the bottom face plate was pulled up. He points it out and asked me how is it possible we have a mouse?

We have three cats and the dishwasher sat at his (catless) uncle's house for several months - there is no way a mouse got to that dishwasher in MY house. He had to admit I might be right.

So last night he was downstairs and I hear him stomping up the stairs - gets to the kitchen and yells at Stinky "You're Fired!" Stinky just looked at him like he was an idiot.

BSM found mouse droppings - lots of them, in one corner of his workshop downstairs. The same workshop Stinky nearly lived in last summer because we had a nest of crickets in there which she systematically hunted down.

We have 3 cats. One was a barn cat who caught her own meals. How do we have a mouse?!?

Good food and sunny spots to nap in... That is the response Pookey gave me when I asked a similar question about the occasional bug that crossed his path and he yawnes and rolls over. Heck, a fly can actually land on him now-a-days and sleep, the safest place in the house... I did put up a Riddix (one of those boxes you plug into your outlets) a few years ago that causes a high frequency sound on the wiring of your house to keep some pests out like mice... You can find similar devices at any WalMart type store... Sam's... The ones that bounce signals off the wals (you'll know by the way the package describes) bothered Pookey. They say a rare cat can hear the high frequency. He did. I would plug it in and he would low crawl thru the house looking for the aliens flying overhead... As soon as I unplugged, all OK. I tried it in a different part of the house while he was asleep and it happened each time. So, I looked around until I found one he was OK with (the Riddex). Stanley didn't budge when the first kind were plugged in...

(The house is all quiet here in Texas. We are moments away from Hurricane Kylagh waking up, my 4 1/2 year old niece. Boundless energy...)

Ah, Stinky must have been talking to HRH Kasha. She does not "do" mice. A few years ago, one Saturday morning, I got up and was suprised that Kasha was not demanding breakfast before the coffee was poured. Turns out she was sitting in the living room, staring at the top of the drapes, which was a perch for a mouse. AAKK! She saw me, turned around, and demanded her morning ritual. Woke hubby up (he was not amused), and his idea of vacumming up the rodent worked. How else are ya gonna get him down from 8' ceilings?

Glad I'm not owned by the only lazy cats in the world! Last night I heard Big Scary Man talking to Stink downstairs, lecturing her on the importance of being a contributing member of the family -- and this dawg man tells me I'm a bit off for speaking to them - he must not have realised I could hear him.

Perhaps Stinky does not like mice as meals....she prefers crickets. Afterall, cats have food preferances too. It is okay Stinky.....Daddy would never really fire your cute self.
