Where Do You Fall?

cyclopsgrl Jul 17, 2007 05:54 PM

I hang out with a group of about 12 friends and we are split pretty evenly on two topics... They have been a subject of debate off and on.

1. Are you a shoes off or a shoes on in the house. Shoes off meaning take them off at the front door...

2. Do you use a clean bath towel each time you bathe/shower, or do you use one more than once before washing?

1. I'm a shoes off in the house. More so since I moved in to my new condo 7 years ago. Some of my friends violently agree, others think it is crazy...

2. I use one towel more than once. One friend uses a clean hair and body towel each day. She washes 14 towels every week, when her son's were home, they each added an additional 7 to the pile every week. Some of my friends violently agree, others think it is crazy...

Just curious how you fall... It can sometimes lead to fun/funny debates... The shoes on/off was a big thing in Dear Abby a while back...

1. Shoes off definetly! As soon as I get home.
2. I HATE to do laundry, so the towels get washed with the sheets once a week. You are clean when you use them, right?

I'm a shoes off person - not that it matters since I'm married to a shoes on person - no matter how muddy, dirty yuck they are. I'm opted for multiple mats and throw rugs at each doorway including the garage.

As a single person I used maybe 3 towels a week. These days - whatever, its often easier to get a clean one. Besides, the baby pulls the drying ones off the racks to shove down the laundry chute. Punky LOVES that game.

Definitely a shoes off person. Mainly because I'm more comfortable stocking footed. In the wintertime, it's heavy stockings in the house so that my feet don't get cold.

Usually a different towel for each shower, depending on what color load I have in the laundry that day.

I hear ya. My friend Denise is in the same boat. Mike refuses to take his shoes off and has dark soled shoes that really leave a lot of marks on her light kitchen floor... She solved the problem by having a new kitchen floor installed that she doesn't have to mop constantly... His shoes really marked up the other floor fast...

It does my heart good to see so many shoes off people. Some of my friends think I am crazy. I do ask them to take their shoes off when they visit (do you ask your guests?). I have a lighter colored carpet in the condo and it really helps it last... Some of my neighbors that moved in when I did 6 1/2 years ago have nasty looking carpet -- they've commented they wished they'd adopted my shoes off motto. I am pretty emphatic in this new place (not as much in the old apartment). Exception -- I'd never ask a plumber or electrician or someone working on the condo remove their shoes... Safety and that...

I think you are on to something here

Nope. Seems like all the traffic comes through the back door where I have no room to put shoes. Besides, there are a few people I don't want getting so comfortable - they might stay!

But some of hubby's oldest friends are huge entertainers, people in and out of the house all the time and they ask everyone to take their shoes off. I've watched the wife (lovingly) reem out Big Scary Man like a Dickinson fishwife. He meekly complied.

I probably will break the trend here - at least with the shoes. While I generally will do shoes off during the week, I tend to put shoes on for the weekend during the day while I am doing chores. In the evening though, they come off. Hubby is strictly the shoes off.

However for the towels - they get used more than once.

I am a shoes off person. My mother has always made everyone take their shoes off since I was little. I guess I just followed her lead. I also take my socks off and put them in my shoes. I can't stand socks.

I use my towel more than once. In the summer they seemed to be washed more often because they don't dry well than start to smell mildewy. In the winter it is closer to once a week. Unless I need something to fill up my load of wash.

Interesting poll ....

I have to have socks and shoes on my feet all the time unless I am sitting curled up on the couch, in which case I have to be barefoot. I do take off my work shoes (heavier nonskid athletic shoes) as soon as I come home, and put on my 'house shoes' ... a thin pair of those cheapy canvas tennis shoes. I wear those in and out around the farm all the time. Something about barefeet and stockingfeet I don't care for. So I'm inbetween on that.

Towels used more than once.

Doesn't really matter about shoes unless they are muddy or I've been to a shelter. But, usually I put on houseshoes when I come home. Hubby runs around barefoot as soon as he gets in the door. One thing I can't stand is enclosed shoes without some sort of socks or hose, though. Hate the feeling of the shoes sticking to my feet. Towels, more than once. Katc
