Finally got my Coastal!!

HerpGuy#1 Oct 14, 2003 01:13 PM

Hey everybody. I finally got little baby coastal carpet from UPS today. I was a little worried at first. I dumped her out in her new cage, and she stayed still all wraveled up in knots with her belly upward and head upside down. I thought she was dead. But slowly, she uncoiled and moved into her hiding spot. She is such a beautiful little snake. I can't wait to feed her tomorrow or the day after. The over-sized cage doesn't seem to be a problem with the multiple hiding spots. I'll keep you all posted. I'M SO HAPPY

Sounds like she got a bit chill. Warm her up slowly and she should be fine...

Best of luck and I can't wait to see the pictures!

Hey Darci. She's been staying in her hidespot the whole time so far. I'm sure she feels very safe and WARM there. There's an undertank heater right under the hidespot, and another small one under a river rock I added in the cage. I am really hoping to get a digicam to post pics, but if not, I still have some pics to burn on a disposable camera. Wal-Mart has that thing where they put the pics on a cd for ya. like 6 or 7 bucks. But thanks for the advice you've given me prior to and after the arrival of my beautiful little snake. You should let me see a few pics of ur coastal(s) if you have one/some.

Sure, I'll try to post some by the end of the week. I currently have 4 Coastal at the moment. I'm hoping to breed my adult pair this year...I'll be keeping everyone posted on that.

BTW thanks for the previouse compliments on my adult pair I appreciate it

Best of luck with you little girl. We're here if you have any other questions or if you just want to show her off...

Hey Darci. This little girl is such a trooper. I put her in a big cardboard box, dropped a little mouse in there. The little mouse kept scaling the walls of the box then ran up to the snake to sniff her and, BAM! she struck. The breeders I got her from were feeding her 1 pinky every wednesday, I just fed her today (the day after I got her) and she's already upgraded to little white fuzzies. The pet shop had no pinkies so I tried a small fuzzy (the ones that don't have their eyes open yet). It looked impossible but she did ingest it. I do need to know, how do I get her out of the cardboard box and back into her cage? I heard you aren't supposed to touch them for like 24 hours after they eat. help would be much appreciated.

See everything that isn't in our "recipe for success" adds extra problems to the situation. Just messin... you can just gently pick it up and place it back in it's cage. I would suggest giving it a bit to relax after the meal first though if you don't want to get bit.

Hey jkuroski. Thanks alot. I picked her up and put her in the cage. I've already been "bitten" by her and it's nothing to speak of. She's still a little baby (16 inches long). I'm surprised at how docile she is, because she just got here yesterday and I can handle her like she's known me for months. Thanks again
