from kasia13 - This summer I am reading garbage, so that gets dog-eared.
Every time my brother calls he asks what I'm reading - mostly because he is reading something thick, obtuse and impressive and wants to share. What are you reading this summer?

Right now I'm in the middle of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (#3) I've also read The Runaway Bunny and I Love You Stinky Face this week.
since the baby arrived, most weeks I only get to read CNN online! A book without teeth marks is a treat!
Right now I am reading "The Next to Die". Just finished The 5th Horseman by James Patterson.

I had just finished "The Davinci Code" and was getting ready to start on "Angels and Demons" when my latest Harry Potter book came in the mail last Saturday. We have our youngest grandaughter staying with us this week so reading has been out (She's 4 and very, very active!) this week so far. I did manage to sneak in Harry for Saturday and Sunday but I haven't been able to finish it yet.

Just recently finished two James Patterson "Alex Cross" books back to back -- "Mary, Mary" and "Cross". Getting ready to read "Invisible Prey" by John Sandford, his "Lucas Davenport" books. I keep up on these two authors as well as Patricia Cornwell's "Kay Scarpetta" books... I can't keep up with many more than that anymore. I am good to get a book in every three months. Problem is, "Invisible Prey" is from the library and I have wasted one of the three weeks I've checked it out for by not cracking it open yet... Once I get going, I'll read a little very night after work until it is finished. So far, all I want to do is fall asleep when I sit down to read, LOL.

Ruby is that a new one? I don't know if I have read that one or not. I have pretty much read all her books I think.

Yes, Jaime, I believe that was released in June 2007. Don't you just love Ann Rule books? She tells everything so vividly and captivating. When I start one of her books, I find it very difficult to put down until I've finished it.
I usually stick with the hardcovers anymore now that my eyes are getting weaker, even with glasses. My sister is the same way, hardcover for her. And Ann Rule is her favorite too.

Not to be knocking on Cornwell's books, but her female characters are so good they are too good - a female cop who can build a fence, knock out the bad guy with a punch, land a boyfriend 10 years her junior and catch a robber while wering heels? (Hornet's Nest) Or Scarpetta working with blood and guts all day solving crimes no one else can only to come home to her tasfully well decorated (and clean!) home and whip up a gourmet meal for 6?
I read 3 of her books in a row once and came away feeling like such a slacker loser by comparsion I haven't read another one since.

I am in agreement. I am fizzing a little on her books. I read the first few and love them, then it just started getting too far fetched, I backed off... I did keep up with them, but toyed with dropping her from my reading list... She seemed to be getting it back by the time I read Trace (which I had decided with my last straw). I enjoyed it more than other recent Scarpetta books. I know have Predator, but haven't dived in to it as fast as I normally would on a favorite author... But, because Trace was pretty good, almost like her early Scarpettas, I am sticking in with her for now. Her female characters are out of this world... Like most male action heros in a big picture. Just saw the recent Die Hard. I can see Scarpetta hanging off the wing of a fighter jet along side Bruce Willis, LOL. Although, Trace wasn't as bad, which is why I am keeping with her for now. Scarpetta's niece Lucy is the most far fetched of all. She is right up there with the JAG star (TV show). Flys all kinds of aircraft, expert in so many fields, you roll your eyes...
Hated (HATED) the Hornet's Nest group of people, so only read one with that bunch and only stick with Scarpetta...
I much prefer James Patterson's Alex Cross books and John Sandford's Lucas Davenport books... Although, Lucas had a far fetched moment (job on the side) a few books ago, I ignore. Alex is true-blue, almost like one of us. Lucas is pretty close...

Nothing started at the moment although checked some out the other day (Never purchase; that's what libraries are for!)
A couple I read lately that I enjoyed were: Too Big to Miss by Jaffarian (plus-sized heroine/detective...first of a series that I plan to follow) and Crossfire by PM Carlson.
I'm also a huge fan of Kate Stabenow (mysteries set in Alaska; characters easy to enjoy and get attached to)
and have liked the couple I've read about a female detective in Africa: Women's Number One Detective Agency and Full Cupboard of Life. Think the author is something like Alexander McCall Smith. Then there're the ones set in old England by Sedley.
(Obviously, I read for fun, not deep philosophical stuff.
sighhhhhhhh, ive been bad, seems like reading just takes too much effort these days. I have a good sized stack to read when i get to them. Maybe while im on vacation in a coulple week...
