What type of pots and pans do you use? A certain type or does it really not matter at all?

I started out with very cheap pots and pans ($20 a set) and had pretty good luck with them. I quickly got seduced by department store ads and fell in love with T-Fal in the early 90s and saved my pennies for a nice green enamel set during a big sale... Followed all the "don't use metal utensils rules" and took good care of them, but within a couple months, the Teflon started coming off and I had "pepper" on my eggs. Used a mis-matched set until I broke down about 5 years ago and bought a Stainless Steel set of Wolfgang Puck pots and pans that have worked well.
But, I have coveted the hard annodize aluminum sets they have in stores... QVC sells sets for a fraction of what I see in department stores (I can't see spending as much on one pot as I can on a whole set)... Probably won't change the taste of my food, but it sure is pretty. I feel myself being pulled in once again...

We still have the same set of stainless steel Farberware that I got as a shower gift 30 years ago. Hubby, who believes in cooking enough food for half of the army, picked up at an outlet store the two biggest pots Revereware makes, one is 4 gallons, I think. He fills it with homemade tomato sauce (will do that when they all ripen at once this year), pea soup, etc. It is also great for boiling lobsta's. (no R's in New England). He cooks, I am the clean up crew. There are a few things that I will make that he doesnt, l

what type of tomatoes are you growing? I put in Cherry and Roma this year and the Roma were just awful! Had end rot on one plant and all of them produced mealy, grainy tomatos with little to ick! flavor when they produced at all. They are staggered with the Cherry which were bright, great flavor and produced enough to feed a small army. I gave up and pulled them out today.

That gets filled with homemade tomato sauce, which we will do once they ripen this year, pea soup, etc. It is also great for cooking lobstas. His forte is cooking, mine is picking up after him, and baking. There are a few things I will cook, such as his grandmother's recipe for golumbki (polish cabbage rolls) and kapusta (cabbage, sauerkraut, & kilbasa). My love is baking!

oh! memories!
I had real honest to goodness made by little old church ladies kilbasa for the first time in 20 years just a few weeks ago. There were about 12 of us and I can't remember the last time I saw a meal disappear so fast!

We make something like this in our family, but with sauerkraut, small potatos, and kilbasa or smoked sausage in a big pot.
My Step-father will eat unnatural amounts of this... the bonus is, it is good and relatively inexpensive to feed a lot of people... Mom throws hotdogs in with it, as well, sometimes, for leftover kraut-dogs the next day...
I have a pack of sauerkraut in the fridge to make this before long, LOL...

For the most part, I like the Cafalon (sp?) or stainless steel for pots and pans. However, I am a true southern girl at heart and still use the good old cast iron skillets and pots when I get serious. Being a true New Yrker, my hubby has never gotten the hang of cooking with cast iorn so he uses the stainless and Cafalon all the time.

And you also think I could learn to type better! "New Yorker" and "iron" but I was having a little bit of help. Boris wanted on the keyboard.

I have a lovely set of Club Aluminum pots and pans and many other types. I usually use whichever one falls out of the cabinet when I open it

I brought stainless saucepans and a cheap teflon frying pan into the marriage, Big Scary Man brought a Club knock off set. He wants hard annodized aluminum for Christmas, all metal handles, glass lids. So far, I haven't found exactly what he wants and I'm a little afraid of the price if I do find it.
Over the years, I've tried many different kinds of cookware: Mirro, Reverware, TFal, Circulon, Cooks....you name it. But about 15 years ago, I started buying Calphalon hard-anodized aluminum exterior, nonstick interior and love it! It seems to last forever. I have replaced the chicken fryer and saute pan a couple of times but feel that I'm getting my money's worth out of this set of pans. It cooks and looks as new as the day I bought it. Rather than store them inside of the cupboard where they are stacked on top of each other, I have a pot rack that they hang from, preventing scratching.
Although the initial cost does seem a little pricey, it's well-worth it due to the longevity of the set. If you want, you can purchase them a piece at a time instead of the whole set all at once.

WOW, my Calphalon link was a little freaky. It gave me Elizabeth's post instead. Let me try the link again, if you please. Sorry

I am getting misty-eyed. That is my dream brand... I am thinking of trying a small set of QVC's brand of similar hard-anodized to see if it is anywhere near the quality for a fraction of the price. They have a great return policy if something doesn't work on their pots and pans... My other set of Wolfgang Puck's (from Sam's Club) is only 5 years old, I have a lot of wear left on it... One day...

Tammy, you might want to go to a store like Younkers, Kohls, or Super Target where you can purchase Calphalon a piece at a time. Kohls and Younkers, especially, have some super sales on it with their 'Try Me' items special.

Thanks! I'll keep my eye out at Kohls and Target... You brought back memories. The only place I've seen a Younkers is in Cedar Rapids (Iowa). I am not sure if it is still open...

Boy am I glad somebody spelled it correctly - I had a stupid mental block last night when I was typing. Amazon has special sale Fridays as well. I picked up some nice pots there for armound $30.00, which is much cheaper than most places. I also picked up some when they were on sale at www.chefscatalog.com.

Pam, I just love Amazon. I buy all of my cds, dvd's, videos and books there. David shops there for video games. Their prices seem to be much better than most. I hardly ever bid on eBay anymore now that I've discovered Amazon. I never thought of checking out cookware at Amazon, though. I'll give it a try. Did you say they have a special Friday sale? Chefs Catalog is a good one too and seem to always have some good sales on quality items.
