When you grab a can of the fizzy soft drink, what do you call it?

Soda, Soda Pop, Pop, Coke, Cola...

I call it Soda... I've met folks who call everything Coke ("Hand me a Coke..." and they mean 7UP...)

I am not much of a Soda drinker... I loved Diet Pepsi in my early 20s, but it gave me severe migraines... I think when I stopped cold-turkey with Diet Pepsi, I never really picked up a liking for soda on a regular basis since... I will have one occasionally, usually Diet Coke.

Hello, my name is Elizabeth and I am an addict.

It's called pop in this region and I want mine in a red can with fancy white lettering on the side of the can - three times a day, four if I pretend I forgot about drinking a can earlier. I'll give up food to accomodate the calorie load.

My parents screwed up - severely limiting the amount of pop we could drink at home, then sending us to grandma's - who didn't believe in feeding her grandkids anything but. (she might have done it to tick my mother off) I'm not sure who won the battle of wills between the adults, but I know my brother and I are still paying the price. He's addicted too.

Oh my, it looks like I replied to Tammy's post without reading the other two, or maybe we all wrote them at the same time?

I'm not surprised that you, Tammy, call it soda but am surprised if you called it soda when you lived in Cedar Rapids.

Elizabeth, my daughter, Pamela, is a popaholic as well. She always has to have her diet Coke.

I'm not much of a pop drinker. Usually I drink ice tea, hot tea and lots of water. We didn't have much pop when we were kids, but when we did have it, we would save the empty pop bottles and fill them with water, pretending that we were drinking pop.

Root beer is my favorite. Also I like strawberry. And I prefer Pepsi over Coke.

I think that pop, soda pop, or soda all depend on where you live, a regional thing. Same thing with sneakers and tennis shoes.

For instance, you, Tammy probably grew up in Iowa calling it pop and then when you moved to Maryland, you probably call it soda. Is that correct?

Ruby -- I selfishly posted this question so you could remind me with your reply what I did call it as a kid... For as long back as I can recall, Soda, but I knew I called it something else when I was younger. Pop... Soda probably when I went in the Air Force vs. Maryland, because I have been calling it Soda for a long time... But not all the time...

Tessa, what state do you drink your 'pop' in? I know that in Louisiana, it's called soda. I think they call it soda in Missouri as well.

Here in Patriots country we call it soda. Pop? That is the noise the can makes when you open it. We also eat bulkies, not hoagies. As for me, I can't stand any cola drink, hubby likes the Diet Coke with lime. My fav's are root beer and Polar (local company)diet orange dry.
