Pop Culture Queens

kittyromeo Sep 14, 2007 10:15 AM

Just for today you get to remove anything from pop culture or media that really annoys you - what will it be?

I hereby decree we will never hear the name Britney Spears again. Her influence led to too many battles between my sister-in-law and neices over clothes. Let her disappear to go raise her kids and regain her sanity in obscurity.

and I don't know the guy's name, but there is this talk show Big Scary Man listens to where the 'personality' claims he is trying to just teach you how to get the most for your money, but every time BSM says we should look into the recommended products, they always seem to be borderline scams (internet banking with no federal insurance, cheap legal work I wouldn't trust to pay a parking ticket...) I want to pull his plug just so I don't have to research another one of his "great deals!" and convince BSM it's too risky.

Paris Hilton came immediately to mind, then I saw your Britney Spears, LOL... Concur there, too.

No more Paris Hilton, no more is Elvis dead or alive...trust me if that man had been alive, when his precious daughter married Michael Jackson we would have seen the man. No more dumb announcers at the scenes of some tragedy asking how some one feels about it, no more how did Princess Di, die. She died in a car accident, let her be. That would be a start for me.

I also want to see an end to Little Eiensteins - the cartoon. It seems to be set up more to stroke the egos of the parents than to teach the youngsters as advertised, flashing images of famous places or artwork in western history without context while playing 1 to 4 bars of well known musical compositions as if this is all that is needed for a well rounded liberal arts education.

Okay - I'm really upset because once again this week someone implied her kid was smarter than mine because Punky really likes the Doodlebops and since she only sees an hour of TV most days, Little Einsteins often is skipped. Apparently an artist grandfather and the wide variety of music played in our home will have no benefit on my kid because it's not stamped with Disney's logo.

Tell that fool person that kids used to be reared WITHOUT TV, without gameboys, without electronic teaching games and without puters. And THOSE people are are the ones that MADE that music she so values as well as the other things listed above. My parents used flash cards, and reading and it worked just fine. TV was black and white and had rabbit ears and it was for entertainment ONLY. Humph!!!

Or, better yet, smack them around with Tessa's Armadillo basket/purse for no apparent reason.

Now that I brought it up in perfect context to the story, Tessa, where is the picture of this little gem you promised us? I think we've been more than patient, don't you, Elizabeth?

By the way, I thought my 4 1/2 year old niece had outgrown the Doodlebops because they didn't come up on TV much, but I was informed otherwise. She is still a big fan and I have to say, in a totally unbiased way, that she is a blazing genius, just like Punky. She too only sees fairly minimal TV because she spends so much time playing outside with her friends. The neighborhood Mom's take turns keeping an eye on them and passing out snacks and drinks when they are outside...

I forgot all about that picture. Will take one soon for you to admire.

Oh Tessa! Tammy is trying to "out" me and my secret shame!!! When I married my Texas born husband, he had not one, but TWO armadillos on display in the living room - one drinking Mexican beer (choke! sob!) I once told Tammy if you posted a photo of your granny's gift I would have to post a pic of 'Randolf' (yes, the beer drinking critter has a name) in support.

But my "blazin' genius" of a child, Punky, loves her mother. She killed the second armadillo, taking off his ears like a old west bounty hunter. Daddy was sad.

I do recall that statement. Get your camera ready. Tessa's digging up the basket now and dusting it off...

I will try to remember to get that stupid thing out tonight. I don't have a digital camera but will take a picture with my camera phone and send it to myself. It is behind a trunk in a closet in my guest room (actually it is Buddy and Tuxie's room). They are convicts and have their own room as they are serving a life sentence for stalking, assault with deadly weapons (claws and teeth), attempted rape and repeated antisocial behavior.

Point that darling brilliant child toward the second armadillo and say "kill" and see if that works
