Do you share your name with anyone else? Has there ever been any confusion?
I have an uncommon last name and have never met anyone with it who wasn't a close relative but for the second time in my life I'm using a pharmacy that has to verify who I am repeatedly because they have two Elizabeth "Smiths"
Last time was about 20 years ago and the the store gave her my birth control and me her hormone replacement drugs!
This week I tried to log onto a new website and learned the name kittyromeo was already in use. I've found two other kittyromeo online over the years, one whom was french. I was glad when she faded away, she posted a lot of photos of herself - topless. Aiiee!
Oh yeah, forgot the first time I got "squashed", aka the wonderful mammogram. The tech said "Oh, you have been here before", "no" I replied. "but your x-rays are here- Barbara A."
"No, I am Barbara J and look at those films! Those are a AA and does this chest (a C at the time) look like that?" They went on birthdays for ID, and hubby's cousin and I are 2 days apart! Weird huh?
Oh yeah, I am one of 4 Barbara's in our family. I was named after my Mom, Barbara #1, but though junior high everyone called me by my middle name,Jane. Now enter high school and they want to enter me as Barbara J, no I tell my name is B.Jane. Well, they won. Sometimes it is hard to remember who knows me as what. Living at home, before we got married, was fun. The phone calls, bills, etc all had to be seperated out mother/daughter. Barbara #3 is my aunt, and my brother married one!
Please, don't name your kid after yourself! It drives them nuts for life!
My brother and I both have unusual spellings to less common names.
I am Tamra, not Tamara, and he is Blane, not Blaine...
We have both had a lifetime of misspellings. People NEVER spell our names right. I will say, "I have a name that is spelled differently than normal, it doesn't have a middle A, it is T-A-M-R-A not T-A-M-A-R-A." They'll say, "Got it." I'll then hear 6 clicks on the keyboard and tell them to go back and remove the middle A. Never really confused with others, tho.
I do go by Tammy, as well, and one of the vet techs is a Tammy with the same last name, spelled differently (Smythe vs. Smith). So I can easily remember her name...
The funny thing is I have a Step-Aunt that cannot spell Tamra to save her life, no problem. Go with Tammy. She has a heck of a time spelling Tammy for me. She's always spelled it Tami. But, her daughter-in-law is Tammy and she spells it Tammy. She can spell the other Tammy's Tammy, but can't get mine right for the 30 years I've been her niece... The other Tammy came along 10 years later.

No one to confuse me with (at least as far as I've ever found) with any of my names. Closest was in highschool. My maiden name was kind of unusual but there was a fullblood family with a name similar except for the ending syllable. Beautiful people who didn't look anything like me. They had a son a year ahead of me. Invariably, I'd get a teacher who'd ask if I was his little sister.
Nope, my name is my own

Tabitha and Samantha..always in our hearts
I had forgotten this but up until I was in 7th grade people called me Terri. In seventh grade there were 5 Terri's in my class and the other 4 were boys. So the teacher got the bright idea of calling me Terri girl. Took me about 5 minutes of that to decide that my name was Teresa. Later some people started calling me Tessa. So I have to keep track of family members that never caught on to Teresa and still use Terri, people who know me as Teresa and of course Tessa.

I know what you mean. I have people that only know me as Tamra and some that only know me as Tammy. I have a heck of a time at Christmas keeping straight how to sign the cards...
Someone once called work and asked for Tammy and they hung up on them, telling them no Tammy's work there... LOL

I have a common name but it isn't spelt the normal way. I'm Jaime not Jamie. In college no one pronounced it right. Always calling me the spanish man's name.
Also in my family on my dad's side there are five of us with the same middle name (Marie).
Now there is another family that moved into the area that pronounce their last name the same as mine but spelt differently. And one of the daughter's names is Sarah. I always say Sarah is my sister. Than they think I am talking about that other family. Ahhhh that isn't even the same last name. I always have to say that family has two T's in their name, I only have one.

Actually, the way your name is spelled is the more traditional one and, to my eye, a much prettier version.
I think it comes from French but am not sure.
The "Jamie" spelling and popularity of the name came into fashion probably in the fifties, perhaps as a result of Jamie Lee Curtis (daughter of movie stars Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, and continued a couple of decades.
Earlier, I had thought if it was spelled Jamie, it was a guy.LOL
I married a man with such a goofy name people usually burst out laughing when they first hear it. I kept my maiden name. My family and friends send mail addressed to 'The Smith/Silly Family'
BSM and his brother are the end of the male line, there is no family left on his father's side - the whole extended family is related to his mother so no one has lived with this millstone of a name. They refuse to use my name and everytime I send out cards with Smith/Silly in the return address I invariably hear back someone saying "tsk-tsk" via the grapevine. When they introduce me as Mrs. Silly, I'll make the correction which is ignored.
After 18 months of debate, BSM recently put down his foot - Punky's name will be legally changed to mine. He says school was hell because of his name and he doesn't want her to go through it too. I can't wait for the twist the family gossips will put on it......

Now that's a sign of a true man who cares about his offspring!
Congratulations to him for having the fuzzypuffs to do thia!
I applaud him and am happy for her! Life is hard enough and getting harder without having an extra millstone when young
(or when applying for a job!).
On a less serious but more of a feed-the-gossip-mill, he could change his last name at the same time!
