When traveling by car, do you prefer to be the driver or passenger? Or does it matter?

Most of the time, if riding with a friend, I prefer to do the driving.
If DH and I are going somewhere, it's fine if he drives so I can do something more interesting (nap, read, etc.)
But, even then, if we're in a hurry, I try to get behind the wheel since I drive faster. If it's a long trip, we usually switch at every stop.

I can go either way... Being single, I do most of the driving near and far unless I am with family/friends.

If it is a longer trip with family/friends, I am usually a passenger as my Civic doesn't hold a lot of people AND luggage... Shorter trips to dinner or shopping, I do my share of the driving...

I almost ALWAYS drive a car full if we have a farewell luncheon, mandatory event, etc., at work. They all pile in automatically...

Hubby does all the driving, if he lets me drive, it is a signal something is seriously wrong and to get him to the hospital. My job is navigator. In the days before computers, I had all the maps on my lap. Made a boob or two, like the time I missed the turn-off in Baltimore for the tunnel and we had a scenic tour of Bethelem steel. Now I have mapquest print-out, and the "bitch" programmed (his GPS that Santa brought him last year). That gizmo is unbeleivable, it will direct you to anywhere, and as we do alot of craft fairs around New England, it is a big help in cities & towns we are not familar with. Not all promoters send directions to the vendors. We call it the "bitch" because the promts can drive you nuts sometimes, so he yells at it "shut up bitch!"

Can't stop laughing. To funny he is yelling at it. BTW where are you located in New England?

It depends on who I'm riding with. If it's my mom than she can drive. I like riding but bf's driving stressed me out.
So I guess with most people I would rather drive.

We know Tessa. You drive 100 miles an hour and get where you are going twice as fast as the rest of us.

Yep that is me. I was talking to my friend Becky on the phone one night on my way home from my folks one night. She called just as I was leaving there and they live 60 miles away. When I told her that I was home, she said you can't possibly be home yet. I had to make Riley speak to prove to her that I was indeed at home. Teehee. Plus I get car sick if someone else drives for any long distance, I don't when I drive. Weird, I know. When my hubby was alive he drove mostly....man thing I think.

My Step-Mom is the same way. She gets sick if she isn't driving for long distances. She does all the family driving if it is over a half an hour away. If she and Dad go a really long distance, he will switch off with her until she starts not feeling well to give her a break...

I drive M-F but on weekends, it's understood I'm a passenger only. BSM likes to follow those wild hairs that sometimes grab him and land us at art fairs, antique malls or museums with little or no notice. Week days I'll leave the house with only a spare diaper and a sippy cup, but on the weekends, I pack enough to sustain the kid for days away from home - it might happen!

Well I drive myself mostly, but if there are others in the car, it kinda depends...some folk scare the heck out of me behind the wheel!
