My 1st mice...

JohnZ May 28, 2003 09:23 AM

I started to try and breed mice to supply food for my Balls. These babies were born yesterday(our 1st). Looks like she has 12 healthy babies.

Also, i did not seperate them after she gave birth, but all seem to know not to touch her babies.

If anyone has suggestions on mouse breeding, please let me know?

I got 3 tubes with 11 total females and 3 males(1 per tub).

Thank you... JAZ

Exciting isn't it? even though they are "Just mice" it is amazing how difficult it can be to get your first colony going!

Your on the right track. One male per colony. 3 or 4 females per colony. Don't remove the mothers or the father. Leave the colony be and let it work. Most of the first time errors are in trying to make it harder than it needs to be. If you start seperating the colonies or re-arranging them your likely to run into trouble. Just leave them be, clean them regularly and let them work.

Good luck!

Looks like you are off to a good start. . .cept for ball pythons you might want to try raising rats. . .Rats dont smell as bad. . .they are born larger and grow larger and faster than mice. . .but then again who needs 100 large rats. . .mice cant really out grow the mouth of any ball python.

Enjoy,
Ian
