what to do?

jensinger Oct 14, 2003 02:45 PM

I just acquired a Pixie frog from a friend who had too much to keep track of to keep her. She's fairly large, but no more than 1 year old. The frog mistakened moss for a cricket and ate it! As to exactly how much it was, I don't know.. but is my Pixie going to die? As soon as I finish posting this, I'm going to remove the rest of the moss... but is there anything I can do to help my frog?

Watch for symptoms of impaction, especially if she stops defecating. If she defecates, and everything else seems fine, she'll be okay. I'm using "bedabeast" right now and it seems to work fine as a substrate, as others can attest to on this site. I've never been tempted to use moss. Too risky!

What kind of moss was it, and how much did the frog eat? I would not worry about it too much. The moss should pass safely.

Should be fine. Moss normally isnt a problem. For this reason I normally de-leg crickets or feed with tongs. Makes it easier on the frogs and the keeper. Andy

Thanks for the responses... I really appreciate all your help.
I don't know what kind of moss it was, or how much was ingested... but it's a light color, a very light beige? I definitely won't be using it anymore though... and I'll try feeding with tongs of some sort.
