baby vs. juvie??

alieliza Oct 14, 2003 02:53 PM

I am planning on purchasing a leopard gecko at the white plains show on the weekend of Nov. 1st and 2nd. I am unsure what age of a leo I am going to get. I bought my fat tail as a juvenile, but am curious to see at what rate babies grow, etc. I know that babies can have a tendency to be jumpy, etc. Are they difficult to care for as babies? I know that what it really comes down to is the leo i like the best, but i was just curious whether or not anyone had any input.
Thanks

i hear it's not really difficult. i purchased my leo as a juvie & he's not jumpy at all and was already hand tamed. the only thing that you have to be careful about is hand taming because if they get scared they might drop their tail or jump from your hands or they might be easily stressed... and you have to remember to feed them everyday instead of the every other day you feed adults. but i hear it's not too difficult. have fun with it and i hope it works out for u!

I've gotten most of mine as juvis, and that's what I prefer. Then you know more of what they will look like. Also, with the babies, I don't handle them at all for at least a couple months. The juvi's are ready to be handled almost right away.

That said, it was a good experience raising that hatchling (and I'm doing it again now from one of my own eggs, with another still cooking). It was neat seeing how she thought I was a monster, and snapped at me and screamed at crx, and now she can't wait to get to my hand to be held. But the juvis we got are just as hand tame. We just never saw the contrast with them.
