I painted quite a bit when I was younger and my parents have my art work up. I'd taken advanced art classes in school, but never pursued it and haven't painted in a while.
I also briefly pursued singing in school (sucked at it) and then found and did well in drama with the set designs and parts in plays.
My Mom is very talented with crafts/hobbies of every variety, from needle point to crochette to refurnishing furniture... Has done MANY things thru the years. The gene missed me, LOL.
In recent years, I have been inspired to write poetry at random times.
As I finish answering this, I realize I don't use the creative side of my brain nearly enough. Too wiped out from work all the time.
I tried Sudoku not long ago. Did two puzzles and never picked it back up. Enjoyed it, but have the excuse I can't find time blocking me.
OK, I am off to the hobby shop to rectify this situation to find a model airplane to build (or at least sniff the glue).

My father is an artist - American realism in the Wyeth tradition to be exact, which he was very, very exact - so I grew up painting and drawing, entering a variety of art shows. Gave it up when I was about 14. Struggling to get my hands to produce what my mind saw, I was working on a piece for an invitational show in Europe when my father commented that it wasn't very good and my brother had always shown more talent, shame he didn't put any effort into it. I gave up art completely.
Use to crochet and cross-stitch but injured my hands a few years and had to give it up.
People have been asking me since high school when I was going to write a book, but I have nothing to say.
So I'm pretty much graceless at this point.
But Tammy, Big Scary Man has a workshop full of model airplanes - if you really want a model, I'll send 4 or 6, 7 kits. Been trying to get him to thin them out for a couple of years now.

GGAaaaakKkkk! Get out any art media you have around and let the kid help you let the artist out! Or go buy some fresh new things. Watercolors. Clay, even.
I won't even comment on your dad but you can imagine. And you're old/mature enough now to realize all the probable reasons for his stupid remark. (Stupidity not being the prime one.)
Talent like yours shouldn't be left unused and I'll bet the young one will help you with freedom of expression and remind you of the joy.
Injuries can affect the needlework so that's just a sad loss. As far as the writing, you're very good at it and should continue to write, even about everyday events. The world novel can come later but keeping the words flowing, even casually, is beneficial, and you do have a fabulous view of the world.
when Punky started to scribble this past summer, dad introduced me to the therories of children's art from Viktor Lowenthal. Long story short, I quit right on schedule.
But I'm quite good at fingerpainting these days!
Fingerpainting is good.
Still, aaakkkkk at your father.
Lowenthal, huh? Headed out of town but will have to give you Katc's theory on children's (or others') art sometime

Oh, I do crosswords and used to sing alot in school productions. Years of smoking took care of the singing though.

Have pretty much tried all of it at some time but no great muse or talent here. Needlework is okay but I'm not skilled. Never tried drama since can't get up in front of people. I envy people who can draw or paint well. I've tried but am never satisfied. Singing and music pretty well stopped with highschool.
I paint, play piano, and played violin all through school. I also did quite a bit of cross stitch before I got my puter.

Muscial- piano and organ. Won a scholarship my senior year playing in a competition in high school to Juliard School of Music and turned it down. I still play - for my own enjoyment and for my family.
Also painted, and danced but not nearly as adept as the piano playing.
There was a study out not to long ago that indicated most accountants are musically inclined. It has to do with the math thing I think.

I did alot of cross-stitch until carpel tunnel and arthritis did that in. Really good at planting flowers, even better at ripping weeds. Love to sing in the church choir, but that is all my voice is good for. Hubby is a woodworker and does incredible stuff - damn well better the wood is expensive!
I am good at selling it- grabbing people by the ankles and shaking cash/credit cards out!
Does he do wood-turning or some other type of woodcraft?
I love either. Does he have a website?
Also, I'm really impressed with all the talent listed on this thread! You are a fantastic group of ladies.

Wow. I wouldn't have had the maturity to turn it down. Drop a name like that in front of me as a teenager, I would have felt obliged to go, regardless of if I wanted to, if I could afford it, or if I was socially or emotionally ready to step that far away from home. I've often wondered what happens to the majority of graduates of schools like Juliard, Peabody, etc. *************

Huh. That's really interesting.....
