As I Sit Here...

cyclopsgrl Feb 21, 2008 05:38 PM

As I sit here wishing I had dessert for after my dinner (something I normally don't do), was just wondering, what is the last dessert you made/baked?

I baked a yellow cake with triple chocolate frosting last Saturday to share with friends after we went out to dinner. I had a wild hair, not something I usually do. Since one of the couples had a 5 year old, I added sprinkles to the top... Sure wish I had some cake now...

Come to my house around 2 Saturday - we'll be cutting the cakes than. Homemade (no box!) Hersey's one bowl chocolate cake with deep choclate icing and a butter rich (box) bundt cake with a tunnel of raspberry, the center hole filled with raspberry and all topped with a drizzy of vanilla icing. Natural vanilla bean ice cream on the side.

Stay for lunch too - Roast Beast sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, veggies and fruit galore, pasta salad, and potato salad if I get it together. (missing a few ingredients)

It's a party, and when you're two, that means cake!

Sounds good! Too bad you're not right around the corner!

And cake is good whether you're two, twelve, or several score.

When is the party? My last dessert was made on Sunday, Giradelli brownies (box mix), then hubby suggested frosting it with a chocolate gonache (sp?) left over from Christmas. That is kind of like a thick chocolate fudgy frosting. Oh yum with vanilla ice cream! Unfortunately, they rapidly evapoate

Chocolate chip cookies from a refrigerated roll. The cheap kind, not big-name brand. Did a taste test a few years back and decided these are definitely better and have more chips.

In fact, I considered chopping up a roll tonight but have restrained myself. Maybe you were reading my mind!

Don't cook many desserts since I'm the one here who will demolish a whole cake, etc. In a former life, many years ago,
ex and I ate a three-layer chocolate cake every week. A very fattening but delicious tradition.

Gotta go raid the cabinets now for something sweet.............

This doesn't count as homemade, at least to me, but I tried the new Philly cheesecake filling - chocolate flavor in a pre-made graham cracker crust. Lasted a week. Was not worth it. I can make a better no-bake one from scratch. It tasted more like chocolate pudding than cheesecake and had the texture of 3 week old coolwhip.

I am not very proficient at cakes other than boxes. I will bake a pie or do up a batch of cream puffs to fill as needed about once a month. I always have candy around but rarely pull it out to eat. Right now there are a couple of kinds of chocolate mints in the fridge with some Ghirardelli squares.

The last thing that I baked if you want to call it that was one of those Betty Crocker Microwave Chocolate thingy's. It was pretty good. Since it is just me, I don't bake much cause then I would eat it
