Orange Jump Suit

cyclopsgrl Mar 05, 2008 06:35 PM

I am going in for a fitting for an orange jump suit -- I am now a criminal.

I got my first every speeding ticket yesterday on the way to work. 68 in a 50, they got me on the bottom of a long hill on a highway.

So, have any of you EVER gotten a speeding ticket or other traffic ticket?

Everyone at work came to me to tell me their stories of tickets, LOL. Seems I WAS in a small percentile of people that never had a speeding ticket at work... Until yesterday...

I very carefully drove exactly the speed limit (50) today at work. Had a string of 20 cars behind me. When we got to a break in the road where they could pass, 12 cars zoomed past me honking. One guy stuck his hand out his window and flipped me off, yelling with a vein throbbing on his forehead... LOL. They zoomed past me, hit the top of the hill I got caught on the bottom of yesterday, zoomed down the hill even faster, and the cop wasn't there to greet them. I maintained 50 the whole time, LOL... Flipped off for doing the speed limit.

Oh, I have gotten lots of tickets for speeding. Even had to go to drivers classes once a long time ago. Now I set my cruise control and putt along. My Dad always said that I had a lead foot.

speeding ticket? no - although I was once clocked at 92 mph.

I'd been doing 85 when some seriously crazy driver came up behind me doing somewhere over 100. Right in my tailpipe, so I goosed it trying to find a break in the action to my right when we were clocked. I slipped inbetween two small stock trailers and slammed the brakes so I wouldn't hit the trailer in front of me. There was a whole Trooper academy class waiting for us on the other side of the overpass. Out of about 12 vehicles, I was one of 3 they let go. But the crazy driver? Oh man! it was ugly....

....but the worst was when I lived in an apt. that was exempt from getting parking permits needed in the area. (Hair salon in the street level unit, therefore we were all 'commerical' property, not residents) I racked up several parking tickets because I got home a half hour before the parking ban was lifted. Paid 'em all.

But one got lost in the mail a few days, so it arrived late and incurred another $15 fine. Didn't know it, was never notified.

7 YEARS LATER - I couldn't renew my license. They kept telling me I didn't have insurance, wouldn't take proof of insurance. Three weeks of calling all over the capital city, no answers. Finally this guy tells me the party line about the insurance is just what they tell people to get them off the phone, suggested I call over to the courthouse. Dial the number, get an automated response, plugged in my SSN as requested and learned I was going to jail. There was a warrent out for my arrest over paying a parking ticket two days late 7 years before.

Took days to untangle it, but the people at the courthouse were super nice. I was so clean cut while I waited among people just getting out of jail, they pulled me out of line and opened a window just for me. I was out of there in ten minutes. Never even got to put on my orange jumpsuit.

Glad to see I am not alone... I KNOW there are others of us out there...

What hassle you went thru over a two day late payment!

I should call my brother for advice, he's been fitted for an orange jump suit in 3 states now... Hasn't QUITE had to put them on yet, very close, tho... He moves to a new state when the old one starts getting too "warm"...

Came too close for call about 10 years ago. My grandmother who I was very close to had been admitted to the hospital the night before my encounter with the LAW. My job was, and is, in a major teaching hospital. Luckily that day, didn't wear my scrubs to work, when we (hubby was driving, we commuted together) were pulled over doing 50 in a 30 mph zone. He told the cop a story about Grandma, and thank God he let us go on a warning, not seeing the lunch bags in the back seat.
Hubby was pulled over a few years ago, outside of Foxwoods casino. It was pitch black, and the trooper said he was in the wrong lane. We both played hookey that day, and went in to fight it. Turns out the cop had put the wrong time of day, along with other mistakes on the ticket. Hubby looked really nice in a new suit, and I was well dressed, so the guy took one look at us, and the ticket, after an explanation, and dismissed the fine!
Did have to go to traffic school once for running a red light. They had driving simulators, and during the "final exam" I ran over 3 kids and an old lady. Lucky the exam didn't count!

I am thinking even more lucky it was just a simulation.

You'll get run over if you do the speed limit, don'cha know?

Have only had one speeding ticket years back but not because haven't deserved lots. That's how I knew I was old. Prior to that one (44) I'd always been able to talk my way out of them. (Big sigh here for lost youthful feminine wiles.)
I also have a lead foot but that generally just moves with highway traffic around here. In small towns, have to watch it since that's a lot of source of income. I hate those places that have a 40 mph speed limit beginning two miles out of the commercial town where there's no traffic! Boy, do those local cops love to sit and write tickets there!

The story about the late ticket payment causing havoc seven years later is amazing!!!
