When no one is looking..

kittyromeo Mar 18, 2008 01:56 PM

You know the old line about character is how you act when you think no one is looking?

Big Scary Man had a rough day yesterday, and I didn't double boil the corned beef to reduce the salt so dinner gave him a headache to boot. He went to bed early.

About 1 am, he got up and I heard him get something to eat, which he has never done before. The TV turned on, then I heard the computer chair move. You can't see the TV from our computer - so I got up to check on him.

He was in the computer chair, pulled out in front of his favorite recliner, eating yogurt to settle his stomach. He said he was okay, but I asked him why he in the middle of the room in the computer chair and not in his comfy chair.

"I can't."

So I was really worried, but seeing my face, he nodded over his shoulder. "I can't. Stink is sleeping." Stink was curled up in the recliner, if not fast asleep, pretending with all her might we weren't there.

As I shuffled back to bed, BSM said, "Don't ever say I don't like your cats."

How priceless. Now, next time he does something that makes you a little upset, you have to rememeber him sitting in the chair eating a yogurt and all will be well...

Aw, that is sweet. Just when you wanna yell at them for being a walking mess machine, they do something nice. Hubby is like that also. We had a tiger, named Boots, aka the Zoid. Hubby tolerated the Zoid, but when she went to the Bridge at the ripe old age of 17 he was heartbroken. It was HIS idea (after numerous hints) to get another cat, and HIS idea to get a Maine Coon, which is how we got Kasha. Smiggle adopted him, and turned him into a mushball, perfect bait for Bradley. He found Brad in the garden, and said "I really have a soft spot for gray kitties (Smig is gray)". So the man I married who didn't like cats, actually got 2 by himself! BTW- NEWSFLASH- Kasha and Brad are now best buds, and do everything together from eating, sleeping, etc. Yesterday morning I saw Brad put a paw on HRH's nose, trying to gently push her away from the water bowl. She ignored him. Never thought this day would come. He still jumps on her head occasionally.

Wow!! He touched her royal nose??? My goodness they have come a long way. Glad that they are friends, makes things easier

Awwww. How sweet. Big scary man doesn't sound so scary to me, it sounds to me like Stink has him right where she wants him. Mine would love me to take lessons from him. When they are where I want to sit I banish them with a "cats move now" and sit myself down, I figure when they start helping to pay bills they can keep me off our furniture. I will share willingly but I expect them to share too.

I was going to leave a "ah! how sweet!" reply for Kasia when I made the mistake of telling BSM what I wrote (I usually don't) his first response was "Is nothing in our marriage sacred?!"

Told him I didn't tell why he had a rough day, just that he.... and got cut off by his mini rant of how I'm ruining his reputation of being a Big Scary Man, a caveman, a manly man.

Ha-ha, funny, funny dear..... Only its been a couple of days and he is still telling me I was out of line - he doesn't want anyone who knows him thinking he might actually *like* the cats a little.

ttpurr4cat Mar 21, 2008 05:29 AM

Tell him that no, nothing is sacred among women. We always tell sweet and funny stuff about our men to each other as well as the bad. It is what women do. Accept it and move on. As for the manly man stuff.....my late hubby loved little yappy poodles..not a thing manly about those little annoying dogs but he loved them. Nothing wrong with a "big scary man" liking cats.

Male ego, such a strange thing - and they say women are the delicate flowers! I may start reading all my posts about BSM to him just to rattle his cage.

Teehee, that could be fun. Let me tell you a story about my late hubby, it does have a cat in it. He loved horror movies and I hated them. I went with him to them until one of his friends felt the need to scare the crap out of me after one. You need to know that I don't get mad, I get even. After his friends little joke, I refused to go to scary movies. Well, time passed and one night he came home from one talking about the scary long haired white cat with green eyes that was in it controlling the world with those big green eyes. He went on to bed, while I sat up and plotted my revenge. You see, we didn't have cats, we had.....shudder....poodles but....I had a friend who had a cat, Fluffy, and he was a beautiful white cat with green eyes. Sooo being the evil wench that I can be, I called my friend and she and her hubby brought Fluffy for a little visit. Hubby dear had left the light on when he went to bed. So....I screamed and tossed Fluffy through the air to the bed. Hubby woke up to see a large wide eyed white cat "flying" at him. He rolled out of the bed screaming like a banshee and Fluffy landed gently on the bed where he proceeded to wash himself happily (his daddy tossed him on the bed from the door all the time at home, it was a game they played). Hubby however was standing there naked in front of our friends shaking in terror. While we laughed hysterically.

And I'm sure whatever hubby said next was not fit for print in a family publication! That is seriously funny!

I have a similar story to your white cat with green eyes...

Had a boyfriend when I was in the service that played a practical joke on me... I should mention he was a cop and we were on a remote overseas assignment.

We really didn't play practical jokes on each other, but out of the blue he pulled one. He had me "arrested" by buddies I didn't really know -- and it apppeared real the first few minutes, but they couldn't keep straight faces.

I told him I'd get even, he didn't take me seriously.

I plotted after my mock arrest, and waited so it wasn't obvious. I had a very good friend that headed up the K9 (Police Dog) unit on post.

One day my BF was taking a nap and I left the door unlocked. The next thing he knew, he was wide awake and pinned by a German Shephard during a no-notice drug search on the room... Of course, he didn't need to be pinned by the dog, it just added to the fun for me...

The rest of the story with my dear late hubby or should I say the beginning of the story....is that the movie that scared me half to death was "Stranger in the House". For those of you who have not seen it, a baby sitter gets a call asking have you checked the children lately and it turns out the kids are dead and the call came from in the house. We saw it and I was terrified. So a few nights later, hubby was at work, he worked evenings and I was home alone with the 3 step kids....phone rings...and a voice I have never heard in my life says "have you checked the children lately". I slammed the phone down, woke up the kids and we all went to the neighbors, I was close to hysteria and the kids thought I had lost my mind, I think the neighbors did too. Neighbors called hubby at work. One of his coworkers that I did not know was the caller. I said a few choice words not printed for family board sites and he slept on the couch when he finally came slinking home.

The similarities in our lives are uncanny sometimes...

I know the movie TOO WELL. I watched it in the late 70s when it first came out. "When a Stanger Calls" or something like that. The exact same movie you write about...

Well I was in my early teens and shortly after, I had my first babysitting job. Mom came over for the job interview, etc. It was in our apartment complex, the couple was very comfortable as my Mom lived nearby, etc. Little did they know.

When I got there, the little boy was already in bed. They were going to a late dinner. I called Mom and checked in and let her know he was sound asleep in another room and all was well...

About an hour later, the calls started. A very menacing voice, "Have you checked the children?" Ring, ring. "Why haven't you checked the children yet..." Several menacing calls with a deep scary voice... I was scared to death, even tho I knew it was my Mom calling...

So, about a year ago, I was visiting my Aunt and we were laughing at how warped my Mom was and it was late one night. We decided to play the same joke on her, 30 years later. If you recall, she is raising my young niece (her granddaughter). It was well past Kylagh's bedtime. My Aunt's husband has a very very deep voice. We convinced him to call my Mom (I dialed) and he left a very scary, "Have you checked the children" voice... the only problem, I dialed the wrong number. Afterwards, he said, a guy answered. I said, there is no guy, LOL. We called my Mom and I had misdialed the first number, LOL... Some guy was wetting his pants somewhere in Texas and my Aunts husband was sure the FBY would be knocking on our door any minute...

They did a remake of the movie 3 or 4 years ago, but nothing like the original. The most scary movie to me ever...
