Mom came home around my 16th birthday one night with two very young Guinea Pigs; one for me and one for my brother. I was crazy about Patches. He was with me for about four years before he passed on (they have a life expectency of 4-6 years). He was a great pet. We'd had dogs and cats, and a Guinea Pig was new to me. He was Very tame and loving. He purred a lot.
I thought of him the other day as my 5 year old niece has her first pet, a Guinea Pig named Freckles. He purred for her yesterday for the first time when she was petting his ears... She was so excited.

My heart belonged to a blue heeler named Mariah who died twenty years ago at age nineteen. She had been my support through so many things.
Also very attached to a German shorthair named Heidi with the best and biggest heart. And then there was a black mare named Sophie and a coyote raised from a weeks' old pup and a possum rescued from his mom's body after she was hit by a truck......................
A chinchilla rabbit that I had in high school. Her name was Gidget and she walked, well hopped on a leash. She also came in house although she had a hutch outside that my Dad built for her. She scared my next door neighbor's schnauzer half to death. He just shoot like a leaf whenever he saw her, his owners were so digusted with him

Daisy Mae Dawg who joined the family when I was six after we (mistakenly) thought Grey Kitty had been killed by the fan belt when dad started the car one morning. Dad was desparate to stop us from crying, "Daddy killed the kitty!" so he brought home a puppy. Three days later Grey Kitty wandered home shaved from shoulder to tail (which was now broken at the tip) but not a scratch on him. Talk about disgusted when he walked in and found a DAWG! eating out of his dish!
Cat and dog became fast friends, and Daisy slept with me at the end of my bed her whole life.
Ah, that would have to be Deke the parrot. He was a full size amazon, about 14" from head to tail. Deke came into our home when I was in college, and promptly took over the house. He took great joy in backing two Burmese kittens into a corner and eating their food. The cats were still afraid of him, even though Suuri outwieghed him by 10 lbs. This bird was not caged, and really was good about pooping only at his house. Being free, he could try anything, loved scrambled eggs for breakfast. I used to get him drunk on Cherry Herring (a danish cherry liquor, can't stand it now). Had him for about 10 -15 years until he died from a strangluated hernia. He also took joy in dive bombing hubby when he was courting me!
Your parrot memories made me smile. Mom had a parrot (I believe Kermit was a yellow winged Be-Be Parrot -- not sure of the full name or spelling). Had him for several years, got him when I was in High School. He loved Mom to death. Tolerated others, except me. He loved to torment me.
We didn't have to worry about clipping his wings because he got stressed one weekend when we were gone (he had someone checking on him) and pulled out his tail feathers and kept them out from that day foward. Vet wasn't worried -- he was fine overall, just didn't let his tail feathers come back...
Was bright green with yellow on his wings and a gray feather tufted bald butt... Not too big, about twice the size of a parakeet. Small parrot.
Mom would have him out in the living room giving him kissies and telling him how wonderful he was (who wouldn't love that!) and when he was done after an hour or so, he'd walk back to his cage in the dining room. He would find me where ever I was in the room and march over to me, and walk across me, nipping at me the whole way and sqwaking up a fuss, LOL. If I was on the floor on my stomach, he'd grab my shorts, walk across my butt, honking my butt the whole way making a tremendous noise... I was always very still and made sure he had good footing as he was tormenting me, LOL. All 8 or so inches of bright green and bald butted menace that he was...
