Where'd they go?

ThreeCalicos May 31, 2008 05:27 PM

I've gotten in the habit of reading the "free stuff" on Craigslist for amusement. This was posted a week or so ago but I just read it today and it cracked me up. .....................

..........................I have lots of free tadpoles. We are finally draining our above ground pool from last year, and I don't want them to just die. E-mail me if you would like to come pick some, (or all of them) up.........................

Thinking they all developed and hopped away and this person will think someone came and got them.

Funny... If they didn't want them to die, they shouldn't give them away, either. The only ones I can think that would want a lot of tadpoles are folks that use frogs for bait or feed other animals frogs/tadpoles... Who else would want scads of tadpoles/frogs?

I've been reading the free stuff there too for my area. My favorite ones have the title "Free Clean Dirt". Call me stupid but how in the world can dirt be clean?! It's dirt for crimeny sakes. LOL!

And then for the sale items I found an add for a twin bed:

"Twin bed, cheap. We bought it last year for our friend to use when he came over. But our friend has a friend and now we need to get a bigger bed for two friends."

But our friend has a friend and now we need to get a bigger bed for two friends.

How funny! I love how they worded that. But, I do say, if you can't fit into the bed I have in my house, that is why they make sleeping bags, air mattressess, and hotels! I don't upgrade my furniture to match my house guests, LOL! Unless, hypothetically, my Mom or someone was coming to stay with me long term...

Speaking of my Mom. She does really well on the Free Cycle site in her neighborhood. Especially when my niece was younger. She got some very nice gently used items for her (baby gates, etc...)

She also inherited my brother's dog, Levi, when my brother left town. Levi is a year older than my niece (that Mom inherited and adopted). Having the two of them was too much, but we all loved Levi and agreed she'd keep him until we found a good home. He was a half Boxer, half Shar Pei. Beautiful dog, looked like a blue/black smokey colored Laborador (but with the Boxer body and Shar Pei ears). Wonderful dog. They live in Texas, I am in Maryland. I am single in a condo, but was seriously thinking of how I could handle Levi as he is such a good dog (just too big and too much for my Mom to take on as well as a baby/toddler).

So, Mom had him a couple years and then met a woman on Free Cycle. They had discussed dogs and woman, at the time, had a half Pitt Bull, half Shar Pei mix. She loved her dog. Mom never even thought to mention Levi to her at that time. However, he was older, and as fate would have it, unfortunately passed away months after they met.

She contacted Mom about an item and mentioned her beloved dog passed away. The lightbulb went off for Mom and mentioned Levi. Long story short, the woman met Levi and fell in love with him. Her kids were out of the house and it was just the woman and a cat and a hole in her heart where her dog "Champ" used to be. The woman met Levi, took him, and acutally moved into a bigger place so he had a bigger yard to play in. Both my Mom and the lady kept him indoors and just let him out to play and go to the bathroom thru the day.

They get along fabulously and she constantly sends Mom updates and pictures on him. It worked out so well for him -- he is doted on...

One side note. The cat the lady had was a mean old Tom cat that didn't like anyone and barely tolerated "Champ". She was nervous about Levi meeting the cat. She woke up in the middle of the night the first night and the cat and Levi were in bed with her. The cat cleaned Levi's face and then curled up with him to sleep. We all melted...

Okay, now this is one of those fabulous stories that needs to be published.

Sounds like Levi found doggy heaven on earth! But you have to wonder what the cat was really thinkin' about 'ole Champ. What did Tom know the woman didn't 'fess up to?

I always try to make my Freecycle ads "pop" when I write them in an effort to get the stuff out of my house as fast as possible. The day I posted the following however, I got several e/m telling me "I don't want the trombone, I just wanted to say thanks for the laugh..." Took three days to get that trombone out of here!
******************
This is NOT suitable for your kid's band class! Non-working condition, case is even worse. It's one that was given to my husband by someone who knew he had made a lamp out of another trombone years ago. Suitable for a wall mount in a game room with an OSU band or sports bar theme. Or if you like telling "fish tales" hang it and tell your friends it was your "cousin's" - the kid from Stanford that got creamed by the football team in the end zone when the band rushed the field before the touchdown was made.

Funny trombone ad! Makes me wonder what you'd write for the Armadillo, LOL...

Non-working Armadillo...

MOL, yes there is such a thing as clean dirt, it means it is free of seeds, weeds, pollutants or whatever...
