With silver bells and cockle shells....

I know we have a few gardeners out there - any problems getting your plot put in this year?

I ask because, although we have a very small patch, most of it is empty this year. With food prices gone through the roof, it took several trips over 2-3 weeks to find tomato plants. Never did locate seeds to grow beans or onion sets. The only thing I could find lots of was herbs.

Our garden isn't completely in yet. We are running behind badly this year. The excuse is three fold- I have spent the past month caring for my Mom who had a hip replacement, and when she was in the hospital and rehab, staying with my Dad. Considered it a treat to sleep in my own bed, instead of his couch. Excuse #2- hubby has been busy making stuff for the craft fairs we are in. He should have done this months ago, back when it was cold and no outside distractions could tear him away from the work shop, but hindsight is 20/20. Now that we are in "craft show season", he has to get busy and make stuff. Smiggle loves it when he is in there, the big sanders, vacs, etc don't bother her. Excuse #3- the HEAT!! It is brutal outside! Did a show in Conn. on Saturday, and it was 96 when we were packing up to go home. Thought I was gonna die of the heat. The garden will get in...
BTW Elizabeth, how did the Polish tomato seeds come out? Ours all sprouted.

Stink wiped out the first set of peat pots reclaiming "her" sunny window. Punky took out the next set which I had outside to try and start. There were about half the seeds still in the fridge so BSM tried to start a few using the paper towel method this past weekend. It's so hot, I really think we are too late for this year. We're talking about changing out one light fixture downstairs with a plant light this winter so I don't get caught behind the eight ball again.

Will send you more seeds next spring, if your supply is low. One does not mess with a cat's favorite spot!

How were the crowds? We went to the Columbus Arts Fest this past weekend which was held at a new location. We couldn't decide if the lack of the usual "cattle drive" feeling was from the new sprawled out locale, or just simply fewer people.

The numbers for this show from the people we spoke to were way down. They said normally it was wall-to-wall people. Must have been the heat, they had been predicting it all week. Just got home from the ER, my Mom fell and popped out her new hip. They got it back in, but I am wiped after the 3 am phone call. Called me youngest brother about 6 to let him know what was going on,and he got mad at me for waking him up!! And I had been with Mom since 3:30!!! Then he told me was too busy to come help me get her back in house!! Grrr, kill.

I'll trade you even up. Mine has been fitted for orange jumpsuits in 3 states we know of (Florida, Texas, and Minnesota). In fact, found out this weekend he has another warrant out for his arrest in Minnesota... This warrant should go away once he pays up a fine (he plans to).

His problems were DUIs when younger and financial (bad checks) now that he is older...

I'll offer up a bargin! not one, not just two, but three bi-polar in-laws without meds. Includes a nurse who loves visits to the emergency room just for the entertainment value!

Anyone up for a 3-for-1 trade?

I've often wondered what it says about my brother and I that we each married into families with such problems. In my own defense, I didn't know - should have met the WHOLE family before I said "I do" - but I hate how tense I get everytime the phone rings anymore.

Nope -- I changed my mind. Keeping my brother. Many in the family secretly love the fact he is scared to go back into the state they live in for fear of being arrested.

I think we got ours in early enough that we were lucky in finding seeds and plants. We did have to re-plant some lima beans though this past week and the seeds are getting hard to find now but we were able to get them.
