Where is everyone?

teganslaw Jul 27, 2008 09:50 AM

This board has been quiet for several weeks, so thought I'd start a post. I've been busy with work and other things. My husband had been out of work for more than a month; he just got another job this past week. It's doing maintenance/cleaning for medical offices, 25 hours a week, evening hours. He works on his own, which he likes. Low stress level which is another plus. I'm working about 35-40 hours a week, occasionally overtime.

I've also started playing World of Warcraft. My husband has been playing that game for a couple years and got me interested. i've been playing for two months now and am level 21. I never understood until now how addictive that game can be. They might have to establish a group called World of Warcraft Anonymous or something. LOL. Once you learn the basics, you want to get more involved and reach higher levels.

Star and Quentin are doing well. Quentin recently went for his annual rabies vaccination. He's a bit plump, weighs 16 pounds, 8 oz. (although he's down from 17 pounds) but his heart, teeth and ears all look good. Overall he's healthy. Star's vaccinations will be due in a couple weeks.

Hope everyone else is doing OK.

Ellen

Hi Ellen. I was just pondering what to post since it has been so quiet since the 4th of July post. Not a lot going on here. Busy with work -- I rarely travel, but suddenly, I have two work trips and my trip to see Mom in Texas coming up on Aug and Sep. In Aug I head to Florida for a converence, early Sep to Mom's in Texas, and later in Sep, Georgia to provide training/assistance to an organization for work. Going to be an unusually busy couple of months.

My parents play games. My Mom used to help manage the Games Forum for AOL and before adopting her granddaughter, was very involved in games. Now, not so much. My Step-Father still is and is very addicted. He tends to play more of the war games and enjoys the building up of the armies as much as the actual battles. They've both played a wide variety of games across the spectrum... Once you start, it is a lot of fun. It never caught on with me. The last game I remember playing is Pong.

Pookey is doing very well for his age (17 next month). He had his vet visit in late June and nothing significant showed up in blood/urine tests.

All is okay here. Just busy with work and summer family reunions and stuff like that. On July 21st some idiot left 4 small kittens at the employee entrance to my job. Guess who ended up bringing them home to raise?? The first order of business that day was a flea bath for all and trust me they were not impressed with that at all. They are 5-6 weeks old and eating kitten chow and drinking kitten formula from a bowl so at least I don't have to bottle feed them. They are living in a huge dog crate with a kitty condo, litter box, food, water, formula, toys and a blanket. They are pretty well socialized so someone had handled them before they abandoned them. One little female is orange and white (Bella), another little female is brown and white tabby (Amelia), and the 2 boys are twins gray tabby and white, (Rocket and Turbo). One of the would be comedians at work said that since July 21st was my birthday, they were a present to me from God. Yeah, funny coworkers.

Tessa -- Are you planning to keep them or foster and place them? I am sure they are sweet as can be and a joy to watch -- but not quite what you wanted for your birthday, LOL!

Fine here except that Catiya is losing weight for some unknown reason. Bloodwork next week (vet was leaving town and I prefer him to partner so waited) She seems to feel fine but I know something isn't right. Unfortunately, she's the one who doesn't like food or treats, anyway, so getting her to eat anything will be a chore. Very scary. The others (including humans) are all fat and sassy.
I've heard that WOW game can really take over lives and ruin relationships. Glad you've recognized the addicting nature.
Used to play a few games on Pogo but haven't done that in a while.
Glad The Closer and Saving Grace are back on for a while but
sorry Dr. Who season is ending. I always hate when they change guys!

Hope you figure out soon what has Catiya's appetite off.

Cyproheptadine has always worked with my cats to stimulate their appetite when they are off due to illness, after surgery, etc. I still give Pookey a quarter of a tablet every other day since we lost Stanley a year ago next month. His appetite hasn't fully recovered on its own, but he does very well on the Cyproh. Keeps him at a steady, strong weight.

Oh wow, where do I start? My Mom died suddenly 2 weeks ago (on hubby's birthday). No warning. Had to deal with funeral, and all that junk then the hospital "lost" her rings. Tessa, finally got an answer today- know it is BS, but at least it is an explanation. One of the nurses put them in the locked medicine cabinet, and forgot to bring them to admitting where the vault is. Still unanswered questions. My dad is a semi-invalid, as such before and after work most every day I am with him. They were married 60 years, and she cared for him, now he is lost. My 2 brothers are also helping, one is a big help, the other I call Geeky boy lacks common sense. He and his wife have "sticky fingers". Found her with all of Mom's jewelry (which is MINE) all over the bed going over it trying to sort out the good stuff. I did make sure every girl got something, but that was tacky. Dad has a big Forest cat, Ghazi, that is now his companion. Ghazi loved Mom, now he knows she is gone and has been cuddling up to Dad. Tomorrow got a craft show down the Cape. Need another vacation!!

I am so sorry for your loss! How terrible for you to unexpectedly lose your mom and have to take on care of your dad even though the last is done in love. Sixty years together! That's fantastic, though. Glad you have one brother that helps. Both instances with the jewelry are unforgiveable. You probably already knew about the SIL's ethics before this but it's still irritating (glad you caught her in time!). It's good that Ghazi knows your dad needs him.
Many positive thoughts and prayers headed your direction to keep the strength you'll need to tend to everything on top of your
own busy life with shows and your family. Katc

I guess that COULD HAVE happened with the rings....maybe..possibly. So how did they manage to get to the funeral home??? That part is really odd to me, seems that if they had "found" the rings they would have called you to come and get them. That is what we do when patients leave stuff behind that is valuable. I am sure that your Dad is lost. I hope you moved your Mom's jewelery to your house, away from sticky fingers. That is horrible of your SIL.

My heart goes out to you. Having to deal with the jewelry -- especially your own Sister In Law -- is just awful. I was happy to hear Ghazi is keeping close to your Dad. Take care of yourself while you shoulder all these additional responsibilities on top of mourning your Mother.
