Computer Down

cyclopsgrl Aug 10, 2008 04:09 PM

Hi. I am borrowing a neighbor's computer to let you guys (and others I e-mail often) know my computer is down. Had a big sudden storm roll thru here eariler today that seems to have smoked my modem. With my back-to-back travel coming up, it may be a couple weeks to a month before I replace my computer (it is 10 years old and overdue to be replaced). So, I'll be without a computer from now for a while.

Bad timing with all my travel, but I should be back on within a month, maybe sooner...

Hoping you borrow to check mail again. Sorry about the computer. Glad you let us know because we'd have wondered.
Have safe travels and enjoy your time. Later............Katc

Just popping in on a friend's computer. Thinking I'll replace mine after I get back from Mom's in Texas Labor Day Week. Will try to pop on once a week from a friend's computer to check in to see everything is OK...

Found out that lightening actually struck my building (condo building with 12 units in it, I am bottom floor). I had surge protection for phone line and power, but direct hit was too much...

Has anyone switched from desktop to laptop? Trying to decide what to get next...

Check back in with you in a week-ish...

Still on desktop here although I would love to have a laptop too. Just can't afford it right now. My desktop is a HP and it is a year and 1/2 old and it has not had a single problem, not even a sneeze. Hurry and get back, we miss you and Pookey!!!!

I have both a desktop and laptop. The desktop has more memory and is used by both my husband and mefor WOW, downloads and printing. The laptop is slow, but it's enough for my message boards and certain accounts online.
Since we both use computers alot, it works out to have two of them.

Thanks for the computer thoughts. I am still torn... Doing my weekly check on e-mail from my neighbor's computer tonight... Spent last week in Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) for a conference. Pretty nasty weather with TS Faye hitting shortly after we got there (they didn't cancel the conference). Off to see Mom next weekend in Texas for a week, back the 6th of Sept. My niece is starting Kindergarten Monday, so she'll have a week of school under her belt to tell me all about.

I had a profound thought (at least for me) last Monday. I realized she had one last week of total freedom to enjoy for the next 60 or so years. Starting this upcoming Monday, she'd be either learning or earning continually until she retired. Homework and suspenses are about to start for her, LOL... I don't think she appreciated the week as fully as she could have, with that in mind...

Pookey is doing well. Hate to have two back-to-back trips like this, I've never done it in all these years, but he seems to be doing just fine after this first one... (Conference wasn't a full week, just 4 days).

He turned 17 last week (a best guess as I don't know his exact age; adopted he and Stanley in August 1992 at "a year old" per the SPCA and vet. Next week is one year since losing Stanley. Still tough, but Pookey is much better and pretty much fully adjusted these past 4 or 5 months. His last vet check-up two months ago show he is very healthy for his age -- no common senior aliments showing up yet...

Glad to hear from you and know that all is well. Lovely of them to have the conference even though the area had Fay pouring down on them. Happy Birthday to Pookey, glad that he is adjusting and doing okay with you leaving him alone. Give him a little kiss on the head from me
