I just had jury duty last year, and it is BORING. Almost got on a case, would have been fun, some guy hit his girlfriend on the head with an X-box. Bring a good book, if you have an ipod with music and games, that helps. No real way to get out of it, they got ya! Good luck.

Oh yeck!!! I know it is a "right" but it seems more like a detested duty to me. Been several times and hated it every time.
An easy way to get your butt off a jury and out of there is to say that you believe in the death penality, or that the defendent just looks guilty. I have never tried that but I know people that have and said that it worked for them.

LOL Actually, the only other time I was called for jury duty was many years ago. There was a big blank space for us to write in anything we thought might be important that they know so I filled it up with what I thought should be done to people who abuse children, followed by thoughts on abusers in general and tacked on that I had no qualms about giving maximum punishments. I really think that's why they had my name marked off for so long. Guess maybe they've decided to resurrect some of the old name. Maybe there will be a blank space again.

Suggestion: TAKE A GOOD BOOK!

Have you pulled it before? It is a lot of sitting and waiting, but pretty interesting if you actually are picked for a Jury. I was on a Civil case once (after reporting for days on end, waiting, and then being dismissed).

LOL, I just read your blank space comment. I don't recall one on my form, LOL... The one thing I remebered it is wasn't like Law and Order -- no concise 20 minute court scene. Hour upon hour of the guy's lawyer saying the exact same thing over and over...

Not good! I'm not a good auditory person. My luck, I'd fall asleep and they'd get me for contempt or something. LOL

Anyway, I shall look for a good book. Had considered taking a mystery like a Scarpetta one but figured that might not be the persona I'd want to present so will look for something else.
Maybe I'll hide a mystery inside a physics books or something.

We'll see what the end of the month brings! Katc

I am reading "Book of the Dead" by P. Cornwell right now. It is the next to newest Scarpetta. When I finish it, I'll pick up the latest Scarpetta, called "Scarpetta", up at the library. I've read all of them. I loved her first few, almost quit her in the middle but stuck with her, and starting with the one preceeding "Book of the Dead", called "Predator", I started liking her again. She went back to more like the earlier books. More mystery and less unrealistic feats of Lucy and her other counterparts. Now the main characters are becoming more "normal" and not super human again.

I also love the James Patterson, "Alex Cross", and John Sandford, "Lucas Davenport/Prey" and newer "Virgil Flowers" spin off novels. I don't like other Patterson and Sandford books as well. Just the Cross and Davenport main character ones. Tho, I picked up the two Virgil Flowers ones and will stick with him (he is a character in the Davenport ones that is breaking out on his own in Patterson's books).

Have read most of those and like them. Want to read the new Scarpetta. Have you ever read any mysteries by Dana Stabenow? They're set in Alaska. Love her characters! Best if you look in the front and pick up an earlier one to start with, just to set the scene but they're all good.

No, I'll have to check her books out, thanks!

I am really enjoying "Book of the Dead". Cornwell seems to be getting better lately after a lull... I'll get "Scarpetta" as soon as I finish this one...
