Question for Show cat

spootabsia Jun 02, 2003 12:11 PM

When I moved here 10 months ago there was a sweet young cat hanging around. He was a Siamese with purple points(?). I saw him a month or so, and his purple (including his balls )had turned to soft brown! Is this normal? Also do seal point Siamese kitties get lighter brown in summer? My sweet Kottons dark brown on her legs (she lies like the Sphinx, with forelegs out in front of her) are turning a softer color brown, and her body thatused to be almost white is getting darker.

This is Kotton when she first came and the other url is now!

Hi Heidi,
The pointed gene is heat sensitive so if the cat is not in a controlled environment with heat and air conditioning and the same basic temperature, anything can happen.
To make a point - no pun intended -- it is said that Siamese cats in the African heat only have color on their nose.
A lilac point could be called a purple cat but should never really look brown.
A seal point will get darker and darker on the body in normal conditions. This is normal. It looks like your cat was recently spayed in the second photo. Surgery can also affect coat color so don't be amazed if her belly hairs grow in darker for awhile.
Hope that this helps.
