Housing Toms

Rowdy_Rascals May 27, 2007 11:39 PM

Hi,
Just wanted to know if the majority of people house their toms seperate from the females and only allow them to be around females when they are in heat or if you let them intermingle at all times. Is it normal or common for a tom to try and breed a pregnant queen?

I think most breeders keep the intact males separated from the females. Some have special stud facilities in the garage or a separate building. Urine odors from the males can be quite strong plus they often will spray.

One breeder I know kept one of his males in the house as he was very well behaved, but he did keep him separated from the females most of the time to prevent accidental breedings.
