My not quite 2 year old kitty boy was on the back lawn (60 degree weather) and jumping for his feathers on a wand, when SuddenlY he stopped and panted OPEN MOUTH.

I took him immediately to the ER vet. THIS Vet said on exam he is fine but to take him Monday to my regular vet.

Does my boy have heart problems? I have never seen him do this before. It lasted only about a minute and then he licked his lips and was ready to play again.

It sounds more like a sharp pang of pain, perhaps from a twisted joint or gas, maybe, rather than a heart probolem, which would be extremely rare to suddenly appear in a 2 year old cat with no previous signs.

My cat Midnight (R.I.P.) used to do that when he was over-heated. He was mostly an outdoor kitty so when it got really hot and he was panting like this he would come in and I would give him some fresh water. I've seen many other cats do this when they were too hot.
