Coccidia won't go away

stacyann98 Mar 10, 2006 01:24 PM

It's been since November, and I cannot get rid of the coccidia virus. I have done everything to prevent reinfection - changing litter completely every 3 days, and beds, etc...
I just tested a sample yesterday and it is positive. This will be the 4th time that I am treating this. They have been treated and retreated with albon to no avail. Each time, I have my 2 cats on albon for 3 weeks straight. 1/2 a pill in the A.M. and 1/2 in the P.M.
I can't understand why it is so persistent. Is there a new or at least a VERY resistant strain of coccidia that exists now?
Have you any information about
this? We really need to find an effective cure as soon as possible. Thank you.

Are the kittens in contact with any other animals, either domestic or wild? Are they catching and eating mice or birds?

They have no contact with any other animals; just each other. They don't catch any mice or birds. I don't allow them outside. They never leave my apartment. I do leave my window (screened) open on occassion.
