Silkworm question

Hefe Oct 14, 2003 04:45 PM

I got 50 silkworms and Id like to keep them alive as long as possible. Can I keep them at a cooler temp so they slow down and dont eat as much? the containers that they came in had mostly wood shavings and hardly any mulberry leaves. My beardie has already eaten a few and Im feeding some to me leos tonight as well

Silkworms don't do very well when kept in cool temperatures. However you can keep them at room temperature (70's F) instead of around 80F which they thrive in better. However I would suggest buying some of the silkworm chow to feed them else they will starve to death if no food is available. They may also die if they try to shed their skin if they don't have enough energy. The chow lasts a long time and can be kept in the fridge for months (cooked chow is good for about 3 or 4 months in the fridge, the powder good for a year).
