Our cat looks sick

rubens42 Jun 17, 2006 04:49 PM

We just was given a cat. It is a hymie Very small still looks like a kitten but is actually 2 years old. It ate a whole bowl of food last night which is great. Hasn't eaten anything today and it is now 6:00 pm. The water dish does seem to have gone down so I assume she is drinking. What I am worrying about is very little hair on the back end and also the very back end is very boney. you can see the back bone and the appearance of the cat as a whole doesn't look well. Coat is dull and thin. Has not at this point used the litter box and keeping it in our bathroom to make sure it will. I am not able to take it to the vet right now. Maybe next month I could. Is there anything I can do to get the cat healthy. if anyone is interested in trying to help me I could send pictures of the cat for you to get a visual. email me if you would like a picture jasonrobinbrownatjuno.com you know the sign to put in instead of the word at. Hopefully it will stop spam.
Thanks

It sounds like your cat has not been getting the nutrition it needs, I would check first for fleas and intestinal worms. Then I would suggest a diet of fresh raw chicken with bones. Do not feed dry food. Kittens with Feline Leukemia don't seem to grow, so you might consider having the cat checked for FeLV. If you can't get the cat to a vet right now, start with the fresh meat diet.
