vaccination and diabetes

caz1618 Jul 06, 2006 12:17 AM

My cat was diagnosed with diabetes 6 weeks ago. At the time blood tests showed her kidneys and liver were functioning well. She was put on insulin twice daily and her glucose levels came down to more or less normal levels.Last week she was vaccinated coz she was to go to a cattery for a few days and s few days later she got really ill and more blood tests showed she had kidney and liver failure and I had to have my beloved little girl put down.
Do you think the vaccination was too much for her body to cope with at the time? Or do you think the problem may have been slowly developing?
Caz.

I stronglysuspect that the vaccs were too much for your cat. Vaccinations are only to be given to healthy animals, and it is hard to make the argument that a diabetic cat is healthy.

Thanks for your reply. I thought as much and I'm feeling quite devastated over this. You put your trust in a vet just like you do in your own doctor and I should have been told of the risks in having my cat vaccinated but I wasn't.One of my other cats had an adverse reaction to the vaccinations several years ago and the owner of the cattery where I was taking her told me today that the same thing happened to one of her cats also.
I'm beginning to wonder if vaccinations are safe at all and if it is just a way of vets making more money, the same as they do in the selling of dry food. They can't tell me that dry food is good for cats but they try to. I now prepare my cats food, all raw meats, egg yolks, mashed vegetables and a supplement that contains all the vitamins and minerals they need as well as omega 3 oil.

Hi Caz,

I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about the loss of your baby. It's heartbreaking to think that it didn't have to happen.

Sending healing Glow and prayers your way.

Hi AshleyElla
Thank you for that.
I just hope that others learn from this although it will never bring back my precious little girl.
