alternative worm treatments?

Cailin Oct 19, 2006 11:09 AM

Hi!

I have a 3 year old cat who has tape worms. I know that I can get wormer from my vet, but I was wondering if there were any natural ways to get rid of tape worms? I'd rather use something natural if possible, because I don't like the idea of giving chemicals (which is basically what wormers are, right?) to my cat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a 5-month old kitten. I don't think she has tape worms, but the two cats do share a litter box. Should she be treated just in case?

Thank you!

Tapeworms are not transmitted directly from one cat to another, but through an intermediate host, such as a flea, so check all your cats for fleas. Just treating for tapeworms will not be a permanent solution. As to natural tapeworm control, malefern extract works in most cases, as does garlic, wormwood and black walnut hull extract.
